I'm pretty sure Tolkien wanted the books not to be an allegory, so anything that comes through is his own personal writing which is nice

Tolkien was a DEVOUT Roman Catholic and his friendship with Lewis is what convinced Lewis to Find Christ and become an Anglican with the Church of England. My view on comparing the influence of Christianity in both men's works is:
Tolkien was raised in it and _knew it_ as a fundamental part of his being so it was refined and subtler as he refined his own literary voice.
Lewis found it later and was so moved by it and how beautiful and meaningful it was to him, his life, his soul, that it HAD to be a fundamental factor in the art he made.

I dont understand this claim. For me Tolkien is Catholic and C.S. Lewis is Baptist.
