Lol! Hilarious. As I am sure you know Asher (since the point of this is for humor) Lewis adored The Lord of The Rings and was one of the reasons Tolkien kept on writing at times when he got frustrated/had thoughts of giving it up. It is kind of sad Tolkien had no love for the Chronicles whatsoever. By comparison to The Lord of the Rings they could def be considered sloppy (make no mistake, I love them both). I sometimes think Tolkien may have been a tad jealous just how quick Lewis was able to put those books out, though again, Tolkien's is complex and while I like Lewis more as a whole, LOTR was def superior to Chronicles. I could imagine Lewis and Tolkien after having maybe one too many pints and have them going after each other. Keep doing these, they are fantastic.

When you've got 100 names for every character, some of them are bound to be simple.

Love the video, hilarious stuff!

It's honestly kind of weird that he got away with Mount Doom given how everything else is so fancy sounding.

I don't often comment on videos, but I have to say this is my favorite channel on YouTube now!

Your voice acting skills are top notch.

Sincerely,
A 32-year-old mega lady nerd for Tolkien

CS Lewis was just versatile though. I love Tolkien and firmly believe he is one of if not the greatest fiction writer of all time. However, that’s all he could write in a sense. (He could’ve done other things but) Tolkien became so hyper-focused on his world of middle Earth (like how ASOIAF fans want GRRM to be with Westeros) that he almost seems a mad man in my eyes. A greatly appreciate the work he completed, but my goodness remember to live in reality as well. That is so much time and thought into what effectively doesn’t matter to many. Whereas, you have CS Lewis writing some fantasy for children here, some Sci Fi over there, a radio show over here, an allegory about the nature of temptation through the eyes of demons over here, a manual about Philosophy, theology, and how one aught to love, think, and live, and then he writes some romance, and a tragedy near the end. What a freaking legend. Tolkien has nothing on that broad range of fantastic fiction AND non fiction. He just wrote a lot about the same stuff, and hadn’t even released a lot before his death.

These are great! You should do one where they discuss their beef with Disney. 😂

Tolkien didn't just name his tree-man with a beard Treebeard. Originally, Treebeard was going to be a giant who was so tall his head was higher than the trees of the forest, making them look like his beard. He kept the name Treebeard even after the giant was changed to an ent.

Me wanting to “well akshully” Lewis in this video by stating all the alternate names for Treebeard and Mt. Doom and the sophisticated etymologies underlying each of them: 😑😑😑

😂😂 both are great writers. But I am definitely in the Narnia camp. Is this really them? Wehere did the recording come from? One last thing Lewis supposedly said that Tolkien was a great guy. He just needs a smack once in awhile.

To be fair, if you look at a lot of names throughout history, the only thing that separates "absurdly simple" from "majestic" is the language barrier.
All those fancy martial arts names are really just basic, almost goofy comparisons to animals in the original Japanese, Korean or whatever language.

Which makes sense, ultimately, right? If you have a crane-like stance, you call it a crane stance, or you name it based on yourself, but there's really nothing fantastical or ethereal or scientifically rigorous about any of it.

Mount Doom is probably a very _realistic_ name, since most mountains today, if their names are translated, are either named after some place, some person, or some thing.

Some of the old Germanic stuff is very literal too it's just dressed up better.

Wow, people take this seriously... Upwards from 200%. That's the modern internet. Makes one sick.
(P.S.: I also bet you made the audio even worse after I made a remark on it being unnecessarily bad.)
(P.P.S.: I guess someone's comment that was there before might not have made it. It was long, tactically striking on a number of topics, but veeeery simple.)
