Did you know you can slow down youtube videos? I get portuguese videos and set them at 75% speed, if I can get portuguese subtitles as well, that's even better.

Over the last 4 years I have been studying Spanish. I use it every single day and It is basically second nature. About 3 days ago I started learning Portuguese for the first time and I have fallen in love once again with another language. I really love your channel and I will definitely be using the videos from Easy Languages that you have contributed to for Portuguese. Thank you!

P.S Although it is still early in my learning, I am not sure whether to base my Portuguese on the Portuguese spoken in Portugal or in Brazil. Both versions sound beautiful, I want to travel to both countries in the future, etc.

Hi Liz how are you...I have started studying European Portuguese early this month I have been learning alot since its close to Spanish, but the problem is I don't have anyone to speak to one on one. I live in Miami, and there's lots of Brazilians here but what I was told that their Portuguese is different from European, so I am having a hard time to find someone to pracritice with and I want to say I like your videos is straight too the point.

One strategy that I use is to watch Youtube videos in Portuguese. There are so many that a person can watch a video about a subject that is especially interesting for that person. And I have noticed that there are many Portuguese Youtube videos by people whose first language is not Portuguese. There are several Americans, a Korean, a Russian and even a Canadian. I find people whose first language is not Portuguese, are the easiest to understand. Maybe they don't use as many colloquialisms or maybe their vocabulary is not as vast but I find listening to these people and understanding them gives me the confidence to try listening to Lisbon-born actress, Alba Baptista. If anyone can understand her Portuguese, they have mastered the language.

glad somebody's putting some focus on the importance of listening comprehension! everybody's always so concerned with speaking skills, before even perfecting their listening comprehension. it is so much harder and more important than people think! especially when it comes to European Portuguese: it's harder to understand than most languages, to me at least.

I like the idea of writing down the words you know while listening to a clip and then doing the translation to see if you are right. This is a great way to learn. Thank you.

Great tips! I’d never thought to search out news sites. You’ve got a native English (American: California) speaker here who’d love to language partner with a native European Portuguese speaker.

This fantastic video came out over a year ago, but yes, I would like a European Portuguese language partner. I can do a language exchange in English (mother tongue), Spanish or Japanese.

Liz, you are amazing! You've spotted the specific problems as far as European Portuguese is concerned. I'm Brazilian and, sometimes, I ask if it can be said in English. And Portuguese is my mother tong!!! Thank you ever so much for your videos.

Ha! I had exactly the problem in Spanish that I was trying to get every word. Meanwhile my wife remembered enough high school Spanish and was more attentive to body language and what was happening and she'd have to explain things to me. Then I got into Brazilian Portuguese and now it's European Portuguese which makes me feel like I'm starting over. I'm doing Preply for regular conversation but would be happy to talk to someone who needs English practice.
