Switching to Firefox to save the Web

I guess the real battle is on mobile between Safari and Chrome on Android. Again it's depressing that Chrome has not been able to pull away from Safari with superior PWA support et al. Obviously it's use cases are not strong enough.

Try the Firefox Multi-Account Containers add-on.
You can open tabs and connect to two different AWS accounts.

It's Control+Shift+P in Firefox because they call it Private Browsing and not Incognito. Also, previous versions of Firefox (prior to Quantum) did allow for changing the UI.
Some forks have stuck with those older versions and are available under the name Pale Moon and GNU Icecat.

I never understood what was so bad about Firefox. Even while using Vista I still used it. Happy new year everyone.

I use firefox. Ive been using it for a while. but not because of some silly 'we need to to support this because *monopolies are bad*'(which ofc they are), but because of the only valid reasons: technical/functional ones.
My workflow can only be accomplished with firefox(>100tabs(waay over that) on 4gb or higher machines). And the latest 'quantum' changes jist made it better. If your workflow or needs are satisfied bettter with chrome, please keep using it.

Also try disabling the smooth scrolling option. It makes a million X draw calls and it causes Firefox to be choppy for me. Disabling it smooths everything out

I've been back using Opera for the last couple of years after dropping it for Chrome when that initially came out. I only just found out after watching this video that it also uses the same rendering engine as Chrome. I think I'm ready to give Firefox another go then, though I remember much preferring Opera to it back in the day.

Switched to Firefox Quantum as my primary when it was released. I only use Chrome for streaming services.

Here is my .Xresource for 12.5" FHD thinkpad. Your settings may will vairy, don't forget to run xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources after that or added to .xinitrc

Xft.dpi: 135
Xft.autohint: 0
Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
Xft.hintstyle: hintfull
Xft.hinting: 1
Xft.antialias: 1
Xft.rgba: rgb

I'm a hardcore FF fan, been using it since it was beta. Love the addons e.t.c.

If you are switching to firefox you might want to give palemoon a look.

Really tried to do the switch and failed... FF on Linux is stil sluggish (especially on JS heavy pages), when running for a longer time, it tends to crash, bugs that I've noticed in FF 1.5 are still there... the dev tools suck - pages get down to a snail's pace when debugging + quirky layout, on the bright side: my wife seems to be quire happy using it on here windows machine, also the new Rust based rendering engine is a lot faster

Why not just try the firefox containers? They work really great.

I've used Firefox ever since I switched away from Internet Explorer a long time ago. But right now I'm thinking about switching to Vivaldi.
Now Vivaldi's not perfect and it's fucking insane how the developers first finished ridiculous features like Philips Hue lights support before implementing sync functionality or controls for the spell checker.
But some websites nowadays are problematic with Firefox, and for some reason the whole browser regularly freezes and lags whenever it runs a YouTube video and I'm doing stuff in another browser window. Vivaldi also can't handle that situation perfectly, but it doesn't force me to watch a static screen for 10 seconds. That kinda kills my patience.

I only recently started using Chrome lol, been using Firefox 8 years now. It's a solid browser. Here are some tips for migrating from FF:

- FF is also available on Android, you can enable sync with Firefox sync and get bookmarks/logins/history on desktop and android synced

- Install test Flight and get the screenshot addon

- Use vimium for vim keys

- You can change firefox code, there are user.js hacks.

Try ungoogled-chromium. It's Chrome without the Google bloat. Though, you will need to compile it.
