Why band distraction will NOT fix hip impingement

If you have hip impingement like groin pain or front hip crease pain you may have searched YouTube and you probably found a couple of videos of people saying that band hip distraction can fix hip impingement. I want to make this video to let you know that that's probably not the case.

It can be very helpful AND it can make things worse if you do it wrong.

Man you 're the best!! I have the fai fix and I was asking myself why you didn't suggest band distractions. I've tried front and lateral hip band distr. and they didn't worked, they only gave me pain. You really know what you are talking! Keep on the good work!

Your videos are so helpful, man. Just bought the FAI fix and so far I think it's definitely helping. Band distractions definitely help me, especially AFTER I've done tissue work for a good 20-30 minutes.

Oddly enough, what gets me a pinching sensation is standing up and squeezing my glutes while leaning forward to stretch my hip flexor.

Can't do frog stretches or squats without pinching either. Hopefully it improves soon

So about 2 months ago I did squat everyday. Things were going fine until I got a bit crazy with the volume. Eventually squatting during warm ups became painful but I kept on pushing. The pain was in my knees and right anterior hip (around the joint) I stopped squatting everyday about a month ago I even took a deload thinking it would fix my issues. While it did take care of my knee pain the pain in my hip persisted. My hip only hurts when I squat, go below parallel, and only during warm ups. I am still just as mobile and I am capable of pushing past during the initial discomfort when squatting. If I do however my hips hurt about a half an hour after leaving the gym

I have been reading up on FAI but I am questioning if I have that or perhaps it's just tendinitis or bursitis. The musculature around my hip joint hurts a bit when I press into it with my fingers or a lacrosse ball, it's almost like a sore type of pain. I have noticed that taking some time off from squatting helps lessen the discomfort and doing some hip mobilization drills with bands like the ones shown in the video have helped as well. Any advice?

Can hip impingement manifest as pain in the posterior "glute" pain? Been dealing with some issues for a while. All I know so far is that my left hip internal rotation sucks, and is painful to go into hip IR

Using a foam roller and rolling my hip flexor muscles with a baseball to soften the tissue prior to doing the banded exercises has helped me tremendously in fixing my hip impingements.

I sometimes feel as if my hips are popping out of socket while walking and turning into other directions while standing. Can you proud go into why that is?

Why you guys teaching us a hard exercise or stretches in FAI fix like that.? I did hip centration and my outer hips hurt still until now. It felt like my femoral head slightly out of my hip socket. Kneeling a lot hurts it too. Thanks

i assume youd recommend proper technique and form with the bands, but also strengthening exercises such as monster walks, clamshells, etc?

Is there anything I can do at home? My sports doc said that there isn't much you can do and that surgery is more or less the only option to ever squat/deadlift without pain... How does manipulation of soft tissue fix this issue long term if you have a skeletal problem like cam impingement? Thanks!

Problem with all these banded, pigeon poses, stretches etc is that they are always focusing on people who already have an active lifestyle or have good muscles/mobility to start with. What they never cater to is that there are people who can’t even get down, let alone do a banded distraction. The lateral distraction can hurt you in 10 different places if your body is not ready for it
