I bought a 2020 Allez Base two years ago based on this video. 5000 miles, feet gain later and the bike still rides and looks brand new. I’ve been through a couple of derailleurs, chains, and brake calipers (all Claris now) and the wheel set are Hunt Aero Superduras, which were the best upgrade so far.

I really wanted 105 11 sp gearing originally, so I’m thinking about upgrading it with 105 components eventually. Part of me still wants disk brakes and a carbon frame however, so I may eventually just sell it and buy a Tarmac instead. Still, the 8-speed Claris R2000 has been a reliable workhorse and I have zero complains about it. Other riders in my group are still amazed that my bike is 8-speed, given that I’m still one of the stronger sprinters in my group.

In 2017, I had a Walmart road bike called "GMC Denali" it had a lot of stickers (which I removed), Shimano tourney group set (triple crank) and weighed a ton, but I love that bike. Without it, I might not have gotten into cycling. At the time I didn't know anything about road bikes, I had to start somewhere.

I've had an allez for 11 years, I've up graded to a 105 groupset 3 years ago it's still My favourite bike.I also have a couple of carbon bikes but the allez looks just as good along side them

A fantastic bike. Thanks to GC I perchased a 21 Allez Elite in November 2020. It is quick and smooth. The rim breaks are great. These bikes are a bargain for what you pay.

I bought this bike last October. It's worth every dime. Just keeping it simple.

Probably one of the best entry level bike, I'm currently have rasberry color one which also featured on this channel (I bought it because of this guy) and I'm using it for daily commuting and its unbelievably fast even with all stock (I changed into power saddle tho).

I'm a Trek fanboy but I had my God son get the 105 version of last year model of this bike. Very hard to beat at this price point ☝🏿. Great bike with good features for a starter.

What can I say? It works. Ain’t nothin too fancy about it, a decent workhorse and training partner, and personally I like how the trail number is really low, even if they relaxed the geometry a bit. Keeps it very lively and playful

I have an entry level Allez which I upgraded to full Ultegra with some Novatech wheels and I use it for Crits. Well worth it.

The best comparison would be to compare entry from 10 years ago like your high end video from the other day

Unfortunately they downgraded from SORA, to CLARIS. On top the price went up. Cooperate greed ! But is not only Specialized doing so all of the major brands are doing the same. Basically double inflation.

long term you could easily get a 105 on there with some carbon hoops, very good standard frame

What size to choose for 173 cm height 78 cm inseam length?

I have this exact frame, upgraded to 105 and put Campagnolo Zonda rims on it and GP5000.

Okay, Specialized has upped their entry-level frame game. Those welds are acceptable. That's no budget frame. Those look like Made In USA CAAD welds. That's a nice looking cockpit too. Remember, the original Allez E5 frames were the stuff back in the day and were crit races favorites besides the CAADs.

And I'll take those square taper cranks over BB30 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I like how the rear brake is "in-line" with the frame. That has to make for some really efficient braking.

And yes, a $1000 bike is worth it IF the rider doesn't do any permanent upgrades to it. Upgrade the pedals, bar, stem, saddle, tires & wheelset, all stuff that can be transferred to an upgrade-frameset, and that way, all that money invested stays with the owner. Or, just ride it into the ground and keep it as a bad weather ride when they get a nicer bike.

Think about it, if they added some SPD-SL's and a set of ICAN Aero 50's, for very little money, they would have a pretty decent rig for about $1600 or so. I loath dropped seat stays, but I have to give it to Specialized, they made it work here.

Love this bike. Got it down to 9kg with component upgrades.

I’ve been riding the hell out of my allez sport since March. It’s a Great bike.

I bought the Allez Sport for 1200. Much better deal because even though it's "only" Sora 9 speed, the crankset (Praxis Alba) is already 11 speed compatible so later upgrades are easier and cheaper.
