I just started tying flies, it's pretty awesome. I can't wait to get some more materials, I need to spend a bit more money on supplies before I'll be content with my setup. I'm pretty confident that my flies will catch fish.

Seeing this pop up on my feed jolted back some old memories. Back in the day, I remember sitting there with my whip finishing tool, looking at it and going “?” lol. Even after instructional videos, it just didn’t seem intuitive to me. Nowadays, it’s so automatic, I completely forgot how much that fooled with my brain when I first used it.

I just use my fingers but sometimes they get stuck when m trying to cinch the knot tight. I do 4 wraps.

Is there a reason why you wrapped the thread backwards from the eye of the hook (front to back)? Tim Flagler has a video, “Whip Finish With Finesse, ” which demonstrates why it’s preferable to wrap toward the eye of the hook (back to front).
