Gidday Alex. Your experience for your first fly was different to mine. There is one shop selling fly tying gear about half hours drive from me, I had a choice of a dozen different salt water fly hooks and two different size fresh water hooks (they had three packs of each). My choice was what can I tie on a small dry fly hook, Im building materials up from there. Youtube is my instructor on how to tie flies. Lots to learn.

Just getting into fly fishing but haven't adventured into fly tying, my assumption of it, is that once you purchase certain materials you can use that for different patterns and Flys? I honestly have no plans to make hundreds of different patterns when I catch plenty of trout using the same 7 to 8 different patterns

Either tie 1 fly a few hundred times or have the materials to tie whatever I want…

I gotta go the hard way for myself but selling to friends i would go the easy way.
