Canadian Leopard 2 tanks prepared for journey to Ukraine

Canada prepared more Leopard 2 tanks for departure to Ukraine on Saturday (March 18).

The Canadian Defence Ministry released video on social media of the tanks being loaded onto planes.

Canada will send about 8,000 rounds of artillery ammunition and a dozen air defense missiles as part of Ottawa's latest military aide to Kyiv, the Canadian defense ministry said last week.

Canada will also provide Ukraine with more than 1,800 rounds of training ammunition for Leopard 1 battle tanks donated by Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands.

The first cargo plane shown in the video is one of Ukraine's popular Antonovs. It's even painted with the beautiful Ukrainian Flag colours. The Antonov's headquarters, base and factory are in Kyiv (..).

The Canadian army has a massive training base, Canadian Forces Base Suffield, in Alberta where our tanks are stationed. It's the largest base in Canada at 2, 700 sq. km. and it also houses the British Army tank training centre. This departure point is likely from that base.

Nice to see this. Canada has approx. 82 Leopard 2 tanks, and 112 Leopard 1 tanks. By world standards it's not a large tank force but it's very well trained and equiped. A very effective fighting force.

The first vehicle shown is an Engineering and Armoured Recovery Vehicle based on a Leo2 chassis. It is being loaded into a Ukrainian Antonov Model AN-124. The tank shown is Leo2A4 and its being loaded into a Canadian Air Force C17 Globemaster.
