The 2023 Mahindra XUV700 mid-size SUV is nearly here, and it's shaping up as the model that should the Indian brand on the map in Australia, where it's still relatively unknown.

But with the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander firmly in its sights, the new XUV700 seven-seater is well-positioned to make a splash, especially with cheaper pricing - but not at the cost of a long features list.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis travels to India to sample the XUV700 on its home turf, to find out if it will be a surprisingly good option for family buyers on a budget.

Apologies for the poor audio quality on the static PTCs. The joys of video production overseas!

I own a XUV700 AX7 L AT for close to a year. It’s perfect combination of luxury and performance. I never thought I would buy a Mahindra but XUV 700 changed my mindset about M&M.A great car with hardly any negatives.

I work in a construction equipment MNC and our vehicles also tested in mahindra test tracks. After saw their tracks and testing methods, I choose to buy mahindra XUV over Innova. Their test drivers are amazing too

Mahindra actually managed to price it below the estimates. This was not expected.

Comparing them to the Chinese brands, they lack a bit in the tech department. But they have a style of their own unlike the copycat Chinese brands.

Interesting to see Mahindra has come a long, long way.. Well, more competition in this segment down under is always good for the consumers. Hoping TATA would follow on this path and bring their vehicles to Australia as well 🇦🇺

Having driven the XUV700 for sometime now, I can say that it’s a feature packed, really solid family car. The pricing is quite amazing.

When the Australians don't shy away from telling it as a Merc, you know their multi-country testing, development and design paid off

Very nice indeed. I wasn't impressed with their other car recently (so dated), but this car here!!! Very nicely done Mahindra. Fantastic pricing.

Mahindra put their heart and soul into the development of XUV 700. They didn't compromise on performance for frugality in the 2.0 petrol engine. XUV 700 is a quality product from the Mahindra stables.

Seems like a complete package and lots of Money invested in getting this done

An absolute yes, yes & yes. We just neeed the Adreno X infotainment with Sat Nav, Alexa etc . At this stage its not likely to be included in vehicles here

Cool, man. For you it's a revelation but for us who've been watching them evolve, it's quite a step up for us too. Began with the new Thar. Very proud of em

Good review, thanks. It seems surprisingly good!
P.S. The audio quality of your wireless lapel mic wasn’t ideal. Sounded thin & like it was clipping?

While the petrol m-stallion is great their diesel m-hwak is a beast. It's so refined powerful and efficient. The tuning they did in Scorpio N ( rear wheel drive) is better than in XUV 700. Both cars will do well in Australian market for sure.
