This is like if your home door breaks, you have to replace the whole house. LOL

You are 100% correct on that. Then these same companies talk about the e waste problems. They are the biggest contributors causing it. Then they don’t make things to last so you need to get a new phone, etc.

Remember, there's *no* security reason to pair a fingerprint sensor to a phone; it's just a sensor, and it's like arguing that replacing the keyboard on a PC locked with a password could somehow let you in; that's not how it works, and if it *does* work then your security wasn't real. Don't let anyone argue any different.

Interesting how the iPhone 7 was one of the first Apple devices to seriously limit third-party repair AND also the generation that doubled in price compared to the last years. The price ramped up quite high and didnt stop going up ever since

All I heard is “big company bad, not just apple, all big company bad” and I can’t agree more

Absolutely. This very issue has been on my mind for some time now. We are all being punished for climate crimes of which consumption is one such crime . Not only does Apple trickle feed us modest improvements to their phones, they also launch those modest improvement every year with a new phone, making the previous year’s phone effectively redundant. Then they go out of their way to prevent repairs through over complication of assembled components, then they add serial numbers to those components. Very unsatisfactory.

I whole heartedly believe it’s a problem of greed and control. I too fix iPhones and have had to purchase the JC-V1SE programmer due to apples software pairing.

I support right to repair and I am deeply saddened that smartphones in general will eventually be unfixable to 3rd party repair altogether, forcing you to take your damaged phone to the manufacturer where you’ll be forced to pay their rate, or purchase a new one due to it. I’ve been fixing iPhones since I was 17. Now 24.

Apple refused to repair or replace my iPad Pro 12.9” gen 1. I paid $1800 for this new 7 years ago. It had a bad battery, they said they cannot replace the battery, or repair the battery.
So I said what do I do with it. They said the only option is trade-in. I said how much, they offered me $10.

I couldn’t believe it.

I cracked the home button on my old iPhone 8 a few years back (same style as the 7). Went to a 3rd party repair place, got a new one that lacked Touch ID, but still did the trick. The glass part of the new one broke a year or two later by pressing it too hard, but somehow still worked by touching my finger to the metal contacts. At that point, I just said “screw it”, and continued on as is. Eventually got it replaced with a new phone, but the busted remains of my home button still dubiously work.

This happened to my iPhone 8 plus! I'm desperate to fix it... Thanks to Hugh I've got the knowledge!

My favourite fix for a faulty home button (and one that I recommend to you) is jailbreak tweaks. This will work on iPhones 7+8s and can allow you to use iPhone 10-style gestures. Hopefully you can make a video on this topic as it is a good way to give new life to older iPhones.

Thanks Hugh for being Honest and not be bought by big tech companies for paid promotion and advertisements. These companies are too greedy and just care about their revenue.

I had the battery replaced in my iPhone 7 in August of 2020 at our local Batteries + Bulbs. Thankfully no issues occurred. I wonder if such thing will happen for other devices in the near future …

I like the way you do your videos, you get right to the point when you talk about stuff like this and the way you explain what the problem the device has then explain what you are going to do to fix it.

As soon as a phone manufacturer stops selling a particular model, it should be required to provide parts at an economical price.

I’ve encountered this issue myself and have been telling people about this issue since the iPhone 7 came out and they never believed me. Thank you for making this video

This is the thing with ‘status symbol’ things, they cost a lot but they last for a short amount of time. This is why I’d look for something cheaper knowing it will last me way longer than the more expensive option

I really like the message you're putting out. It's amazing. I wish tech channels did this or something similar to bring awareness to this issue.

I've been watching your stuff for a year or two but never commented on any. Your work is pretty awesome and I wish you the best in life.
