Part 1 of 3 - Video presentation of a hive inspection/reconfiguration for fall managent. Presented by Kevin & Daniel Inglin; Kevin of the Northwest New Jersey Beekeepers Association (NWNJBA).

The weather didn't cooperate during this video shoot but the principles of a reconfiguration and inspection are overviewed. Includes moving brood in bottom box and preparing honey and pollen for overwintering. Last fall 2015 I lost my entire colony of honey bees to yellow jackets invading the hive. My bees absconded after the yellow jackets killed the queen and invaded the hive. It was my first year as a BK. I didn't know any better as not much info is on you tube or the books I have about this serious problem. I was told by an expert that as soon as 1 YJ gets into the hive, the hive may become history. You found one on a frame in this video. You need to put an entrance reducer right away with a hole 3/8" x 3/4" to allow the colony to defend against the wasp raiders and robbers. I hope your hive survived and made it over the winter.

use coke bottle as a yellow jacket trap place it few yards away from bees that should help out
