Krastorio is also an awesome overhaul mod (like Space Exploration). It's much less overwhelming but adds a fair lot and has awesome aesthetics and cool new stuff

If I had to guess, Even Distribution isn't a part of the base game because it makes supplying furnaces and Assemblers by hand easier

Some of my favorite mods include the following:
Orphan Finder: This locates on the map any underground pipe or underground transport belt that does not have a connecting pipe/belt

Miniloader: A belt like structure that can quickly load/unload items from/into anything. (note: If you have a crate full of a resource and you want to get it onto a train you need a miniloader to get it out of the crate and another miniloader to load it into the train storage car)

Bio Industries: This creates a whole new set of production/research that allows you to help stretch out your resources by building tree farms, bio plants, large solar pannels/accumulators, air cleaning gardens, and more. Basically, you start off with wood, make more wood, then make lots of other things from the wood-based products.

Schall Recharging Weapon: Adds news laser gun weapons that use a modular suit battery's for ammunition.

Schall Alien Loot: When alien bugs die they drop alien ore that can be converted into resources such as iron, copper, stone, etc..

Schall Pickup Tower: Very useful when using the Alien loot mod. This structure will periodically pick up items from the ground in a large radius and place them inside the structure that acts like a steel storage crate.

Spidertron Patrols: Also very useful when using the Alien loot mod. This allows you to program a path for a spidertron, including stops. You can build depots where it can pick up/unload items when stopped. Kinda like having a heavily armed all terrain train.

Deadlock stacking is the most useful if you want to drag all your production/mining/smelting away from your main base

Recipe book mod is great for the obvious reason of it telling you exactly what you need for any given product in the game

Not yet tried the Space Exploration mod, but it's on the list. Great channel.

Sweet summer child: you have forgotten essentials like Picker, Factorissimo, Ultimate Belts, Aircraft, Bluebuild, Auto Deconstruct, Auto Research, Big Brother, Flow Control, LTN (must have for large scale operations), Resource Spawner Overhaul, Upgrade Planner, Warehousing Mod, Wire Shortcuts, Well Planner, Wood Gasification.

Repair Turrets and Miniloaders also smooths the experience of playing Factorio.

As someone who has sunk over 1, 280 hours into Factorio: I can attest to how lifesaving many of these mods can be.

Rampant is really good, but there's no way (short of wiping them entirely from the map) to just get them to STOP HAMMERING YOUR BASE!
