Shout from Portugal!
Loving these series and learning a lot as we go. And no idea about this part of history, never would I have guessed my country had faced the great Ottoman Empire at its peak.
Love your work, keep it up, I’m a big fan of yours.

The Portuguese Commander was called Cristovão, not CristAvão, and was the son of Vasco da Gama!

Ethiopia is an underrated country.
Btw its funny how we fought the Turks so many times and in so many places during our history, yet there are basically no grudges between our nations.
Cheers from Portugal 🇵🇹!

Imagine being the King's son, newly ascended to the throne of a crumbling nation, fraught with grief for your father and the sure disappointment you will bring to his name in the coming end to this war, when all of a sudden, you see that out of a dust storm on the Red Sea, you sight the billowing flag of the Portuguese Navy as dozens of great warships sail into harbor. Offloading hundreds of soldiers and thousands of muskets, their captain comes up to you, pauses, and offers you his hand, saying: "Olá meus irmãos. Ouvimos sua ligação e agora estamos aqui para ajudar." :)

Don Cristovão da Gama, the commander of the Portuguese volunteers, was the youngest son of Vasco da Gama. He is buried in the small rural town of Degoma, east of Lake Tana in Northern Ethiopia. Degoma is a local rendition of da Gama.
