I am honestly liking your africa series, I would also love to see you do a middle eastern series with you focusing on such wars like the black september war or the 1982 Lebanese civil war.

This war is described by some historians and observers as "Portugal's Vietnam". The Portuguese colonial authorities are effectively invincible in their military campaigns against the rebels in Angola and Mozambique. But in Guinea, it's a totally different story!

That strategy of helping farmers become more efficient was genius, that is why they succeeded in my opinion.

and I hope you learned something new."

Indeed I did. Until now, I'd never heard a word about any of this. Africa has to be the least talked about, least understood region in the world. That's why I'm addicted to these history channels.

I`d love to see an episode at how the Portuguese fought wars in Angola and Mozambique and only lost because of regime change in Portugal...then, how Portugal all but abandoned it`s citizens living in Angola and Mozambique which led to a very large number of them coming to South Africa and setting up very successful businesses in farming, retail and restaurants...
God bless Nando`s and God bless Peri Peri Chicken and LM Prawns!!!!

My grandfather served in Angola as an army medic. He has many stories of the place. Even though many people say the war was won in Angola and Mozambique, the north of Mozambique wasn't taken and to the eastern parts of Angola armed guerrilla incursions still happened often, hitting Portuguese forces and retreating to Zambia. In Angola, Portuguese forces were successful because PIDE did most of the work. From military intelligence to hiring natives to track down the guerrillas (the famous Flechas) and that proved the turning point in the war in Angola. Beyond that, Portugal was more concerned of losing Angola and Mozambique than Guinea. With that said, I know guys that served in Guinea and compared to other places, it was hell on earth. In Angola, you had to fight insurgents in the jungle. In Guinea, you had to fight in the swampland while getting shelled by artillery miles away. Different theaters, different problems.

I am an African from the Portuguese colonies, raised in Lisbon. I'm surprised to see many comments from Portuguese people, who don't even know their history. Until about 1974 or 75, there were white slaves in Portugal, mainly in Lisbon and south of the Tejo River. And many of these parrots in the comments are their descendants. Most of these people today are white, but in the very near past, grandparents or great-grandparents were all black. Abuses did not just happen in Africa, in Portugal slavery was also a true reality.

I’ve been to Guinea Bissau a couple of times. It is not uncommon to find locals that speaks Russian, as many of them went to college in Russia during the communist regime. Overall very tragic story.

When people say that Russia or USSR is/was the most racist country, they need to watch videos like this. Russia has helped many African countries and was against the apartheid, Russia is also one of the few European countries that never enslaved Africans. That's why most African leaders are supporting Russia right now. Btw awesome video!!

That’s what you call political warfare, baby. That’s how you do it. Big up to Amilcar Cabral’s leadership, all the brave fighters, and international allies

Can you guys please do a Untangling Africa episode on the Ethiopian-Eritrean War and the Sudanese Civil War. And can you also do a Untangling Asia video on the forgotten but still ongoing West Papuan conflict and the Sri Lankan Civil War please.
