Astro A20 VS Plantronics RIG 800LX Wireless Headset Comparison Review Xbox One & PC

Finding the best wireless headset for you isn't easy and even after using both of these, it's still a tough decision. Personally I would want the RIG 800LX because they actually suit some of my needs. But overall the Astro A20s are probably the more popular choice for sound and mic.

Like most products they both have their pros and cons, but after using so many gaming headsets, these didn't quite check the boxes for me, so I'm not too keen on recommending either. They're good and worth a look, and in the price range, they're probably some of the better choices, but at the same time, I would be inclined to save a bit more and buy something that I could get excited about.

I just bought the rigs yesterday dropped 170$ with insurance 😭 worth it. Siege is amazing now. My turtle beach headset was old and broke down and now I hear everything.

I'm surprised the A20s have a longer audio delay than the 800LX. That's the deal breaker for me, the 800 wins.

Latency is everything, I love that you put latency measurements in too. :)

Great. Absolutely great review. Like top notch. Thank you. If I could like 1000 times I would.

Most music has the dynamic range compressed so that the low-end still seems fairly high don’t ask me how to do it but figured out and try it

Both the RIG800LX and Astros A20 are on sale for Black Friday at $99. After watching this I'm leaning towards the RIGS myself 😏

I run rig 600 wired works really well on cod knowing exactly where footsteps and what not are and the guns sound amazing. I prefer wired less issues

I struggled with the distortion for a while on the Rigs, but if I listen to music I just push the chat mixer volume to max(game to minimum) put the level on Spotify on the 3 lowest, flat preset and then adjust the headset volume, works perfect

I have the RIG 500HD (wired version of the RIG 800). While extremely light and comfortable, and with great soundstage for gaming and an excellent microphone, the elastic band wears out after about a year and then it loses grip and tension. I want to replace the band, but I can't find any replacements anywhere.

thx for another review. Tips for lighting, a large softbox further away is much better. Or if you have white wall or roof, shine a really bright light into it . The larger the lightsource the softer lighting, but if you want light to stay even at great distance the lightsource needs to be further away, and thus you must exponentially increase the size of the light source. If you want super cheap lighting, you can buy a led worklights(~4000Kelvin) ~ 3 50watts, then you can use really thin white shower curtains to either shine through or to reflect. The quality of the light color is not the best, however if you set your camera to custom WB etc it is enough for youtube review video, just make sure all your lights are the same, not 2 different brands., as some cheap leds might have magenta or green hue to them. And if you want to take it to the next step you can buy GELS in different colors and tape em straight onto the led lights, the leds dont get that warm .

I’ve had both. The rig is waaay more comfortable and lighters. Much better battery and never had an issue with syncing it to the Xbox .the astros were uncomfortable as the bar on top will start to make a sore spot on your head after about an hour as all the weight is isolated in a small area vs the rig headband was very nice. Battery life and range def in favor of the rig. The a20s had trouble syncing about 59 %of the time. It should auto pair but won’t and I sometimes can’t figure it out and just have to play without a headsets. Sound seemed comparable with both. Didn’t like the voice feedback on the astros. Some ppl like to be able to hear themselves but I don’t. The only reason I got the Astro’s was because the power button on the rig broke after only 2 months so out of frustration I went with Astro. Now in hindsight I wish I had the rig again as the astros just plain piss me off. Hope this helps but only advantage to astros is better button quality and lower price pt. Otherwise the rig is far better. Neither of them very loud though. Both could be better in that dept. I had 40s and the sound was awesome but of course the wire housing always gives out. Next I will just spring for the 50s . I am hoping for the sound and quality in a wireless format. Sorry to my wallet.

pay the extra money and get Sennheiser's. I've had my PC350's for 7 years and they're still going strong aside from the foam starting to flake

$125 is hard to justify. AG9+ Afterglow from PDP is $80 and is a dongle plug in play for both Xbox and PC. My beef with them was a mic that broke, but recently, I see a redesigned mic boom that likely solves this problem.

If you're looking for the best I'd lean towards checking out the top of the line steel series headsets with the Dock/DACs. Support optical in and out, as well as wireless. You've previously reviewed both of their offerings, the siberia 800 and the arctis 7. Probably the best optical enabled headphones if you need wireless. Only downside is the price bracket.

I paid 200Aud for my rig 800hx which is the same as the hx with different ear cups that are comfier and they make a really high frequncy sound that hurts your ears when nothing is happening

I miss the old Platronics Gamecom Commander headsets that they use for tournaments, it's a shame they don't re-release them. I feel like they woud sell pretty well

I love these and I find the bass fine. What however is NOT fine is the distortion when the chat/game dial is in the middle or higher. This totally defeats the possibility of having higher game audio volume and lower chat volume. As soon as I put the dial slightly below the middle the distortion is gone but cranks up the chat volume way too much. I Googled it and found a Reddit thread on it and apparently it's normal, wtf man.

Isn't the the Steelseries Arctis Pro compatible with console? I think that Headset is the best choice atm
