The result of the battle is completely objective, the lore of the saga itself makes you understand that Ness is much superior, there can be no subjective opinions here. Ness has gained the melodies and power of the Earth around the end of EarthBound. With this we can conclude that Ness is superior to Lucas, since he obtained the power of Earth and would create a standoff if they fought in the same timeline. Additionally, there are various statements throughout the game, the Lighted Hall, and Magicant that tell us that Ness is The Truth itself, a conceptual entity superior to the Dark Dragon.
