Can you have berries on keto? Yes! But what are the best berries to have on keto? Here’s what you need to know. Berries are loaded with phytonutrients. These phytonutrients have some really interesting potential health properties.

A few potential health benefits of berries:
• They’re antioxidants
• They can help blood sugars
• They’re high in fiber
• They’re high in vitamin C
• They can help reduce inflammation

The best berries to have on keto (1 cup):
• Strawberry - Net carb = 8.1g Sugar = 7g
• Blueberry - Net carb = 17.4g Sugar = 15g
• Blackberry - Net carb = 6g Sugar = 7g
• Raspberry - Net carb = 7g Sugar = 5g

Dried berries per cup can have as much as 132g of net carbs and 80g of sugar. So, fresh and frozen berries are keto-friendly, but dried berries are not keto-friendly and should be avoided.

Thank you so much, I figured berries were okay on keto. So many people were telling me they weren’t KETO. I only use fresh black berries.

Blackberries are notorious for FODMAPS. There is presumably a difference between cultivated and blueberries and the wild forest blueberries sold in Sweden in frozen packs.

Excellent! I've been focused on blueberries for their health benefits. Anthocyanins, antioxidants etc. But I bought Barry medley which was strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry a while back and that really tasted fantastic in my evening keto shake. It's good to know how high blueberries are in sugar though, as I have completely cut sugar out of my diet and I'm substituting stevia and its place. Thanks to many of your videos. I think I will switch out and start running. Berry medley more and pure blueberry less. Thanks Dr. Berg! Excellent charts as always!

Dr Berg,
you are doing amazing work. Thanks!
But, one point: Lot of health Gurus in west are already talking about Keto. But, not many health gurus in west are talking about other alternate ideas. For example, there is a person named Dr Khadervalli in India. He is recommending millets (5 millets: Barnyard, Kodo, Little, Foxtail & Brown Top millet) to cure many types of lifestyle diseases including Diabetes. And its getting popular in India. Similarly, millets are eaten as a traditional diet in Africa. Yet, there is no mention of millets by western Health Gurus.
Keto is a saturated field (interms of Health info). People already know everything about Keto diets. But, there is lot of other health stuff which is unexplored. I hope you will explore such health topics. (And please do an analysis of Millets & Dr Khader's diet).
Anyway, thanks for your videos. They are always very informative...😊

I tried out a bunch of different fruits and vegetables for some time in order to figure out how to get fruits in all the colours. I currently go with raspberries, spinach, blackberries, carrots, yellow bell peppers, and garlic, and that seems to work great - I can split them up so that they only give 20 grams of carbs per day, and they are still decent amounts.

This is very helpful thanks. I don't have a sweet tooth but my friend relies heavily on them, as part of lowering his carb intake.

What kind of blueberries are we talking about here? Wild blueberries (which grow on very low bushes and are blue all the way through) are very different from the ones you normally buy in a U.S. grocery store (which grow on large bushes and are white inside and much larger).

Blackberries where I live are on average $5 a pack. You can usually get 2 packs of fresh strawberries for that price. Strawberries it is!

Hi Dr. Berg, I have a question!
Fat metabolism for energy takes longer time than sugar, so it's not ideal for exercises that require quick source of energy, question is that are people who are fat adapted metabolise fat quicker than those who are not?
