Teaching a bird dog puppy whoa? This is how we train the beginning stages of whoa, which is stand still. We start training this early to avoid a puppy from defaulting to the behavior "sit." In this training session our puppy is simply rewarded for standing still, and once he is conditioned to standing we will introduce the cue "whoa." Follow along as we teach show you how to teach your puppy whoa.

I had a 13 year old GSP whom I never taught “WHOA”. I am picking up a Vizsla puppy this week. I’m naming her “Effie” (after the chemical name for rust - FE203). I will be teaching Effie the “WHOA” command as part of her training. I also hope she enjoys catching a frisbee as much as my GSP did. I even buried my beloved GSP with her last frisbee.

Thanks again, I've been following along with my GSP pup who was born on the 27th of August, so pretty much the same age. Great to know where I need to be, so far we're keeping up!

Just got back from a quail hunt at a lodge in GA. Not one of the dogs were steady to shot. I can't tell you how many birds I did not shoot at because the dogs were in hot pursuit. There is nothing like hunting over a dog that knows the whoa command and is study to flush. I had one years ago and she was a pleasure to hunt with.

Great video. When is the best time to do this training in relation to meal time? Should it be just before the meal when they are hungry or some other time? I just got my 4.5 month pup right after. Christmas and she needs training.

Yawa question: I have a 5 month old rescue coonhound/tree walker hound mix. I've been following the videos and he's doing well. I am wondering how to let the puppy play with other dogs without being too aggressive. Seems like moose wants to chew on their necks. He gave my German Rottweiler a hot spot. How do I get him to play nice?

I’m getting a 8 week old puppy a week before Christmas, what puppy food do you recommend I feed him and when should I lead him off into adult food?

If anything I taught my GSP it was Whoa because if I said it he stoped his back leg would just shake till I said lets go.

Great dogs, I hunted for 13 years with my GSP. She developed severe pancreatitis.

Can you tell us how much a puppy should be feed vs. Adult and so forth. Just curious on what you recommend. Thanks for the feedback and I certainly can see a video about this.

If I’m just finding these training sessions and my pup is 13 weeks how do I start?

My Golden Retriever puppy is 10 weeks old, and I am working on the whoa training. What should I do when he doesn't want to stand but rather sit every time? Should I just keep moving my feet like you do in the video until he stands up and then mark it?

When I’m the day was this training ? I ask as he was keen for rewards so it wasn’t early after his morning meal?
