💯% Agree with no dog parks, dogs running around and their owners just say, oh they're fine. Next thing you know, there's a fight over a ball. Just saying 🤷‍♀️

Reminds me of one time I left my puppy alone at home for 2 frickin hours and somehow she put a hole in the wall.

I live in a apartment and I trained my dog to use a cat litter box. Best thing ever for some one that has to keep there dog in a apartment with no back yard. It took about 4 months to do it as he was already 3 year old dog from the pound. But he is amazing now.

I would also work on food guarding. Especially if you have small children. My poodle would see little ones playing near his food and run into the other room. I trained him not to worry about food.

No dog parks is great advice. I took my shepherd mix way too early and she was traumatized. Now she’s super insecure around other dogs and it often manifests as aggression.

I do training outside of the dog park for training my service dog and sons SD. It’s great for them learning that even though a dog is barking at them, they focus on me.

AVOID dog day cares for your puppy. My puppy went there while I worked and even though they demand medical histories for dogs, she ended up getting kennel cough from another dog. Puppy was fine, but my older dog at home caught it from her and passed away due to complications from it. Never again.

I was living in London at the time and very deliberately socialised my puppy to be comfortable with trains and buses. I was a bit too successful and it backfired months later, when she was off leash in a park and saw a red bus out of the corner of her eye. Ran hundreds of metres out of the park and tried to get on the moving bus! Luckily it was a quiet suburban street and there was no harm done, but she was back on her leash for another month until her recall was more perfect...

I’m living in a dorm ish situation (have my own room but shared bathroom, kitchen and living room) the girl that lives in the room across from me have a Chihuahua. When I first got my puppy she attacked him twice in a week. Once when we tried to introduce them and again when the girl left her door open and I was taking my puppy out to go potty. I was super scared we wouldn’t meet other dogs soon enough and he’d become reactive. Luckily though, on my way back from class a little later my university was hosting a Service and therapy dogs of campus event where they’d be off duty and play with each other and students. I told the host about my puppy and what had happened and told me to go get him bring him to the event. It was perfect!! some dogs played with him, and some just acknowledged him with a sniff and carried on but made me so happy have the opportunity to surround him with almost 30 other dogs of all kinds of breeds and sizes that were all highly trained and super friendly. He has absolutely no problem with other dogs now, he just sits and watches them and if they approach he’ll sniffs them and if they initiate play he’s happy to play but if they walk away he just walks back to me :) I always check with the owners and ask if their dog is friendly or not though, and if they say no I pick him up and put some distance between us and them because a friendly dog that’s been attacked enough times becomes a reactive dog eventually no matter the age.

I walk my dog on a very busy street literally so they they don't react with loud noise...they have learned to pay attention to unfamiliar sounds.

We got our dog at 14 weeks and the breeders did nothing with socialization and is scared shitless of new people, other dogs, and just a small simple sound of a door opening. Shes getting better at 7 months now but they definitely need to be socialized

I feel dog parks in the Netherlands are different from American ones. A lot of people do bring their puppy here but keep them close to them so they can actually socialize with other dogs and the other dogs can still go wild.

Besides that we also have parks where dogs are allowed but always have to be on leash unless they're in a little surrounded area. This is a great way for pups to socialize with both dogs and humans.

I 1000% agree on the no dog park thing. I've never and will never take any of my boys to one.
