Your multiplication principle with the sandwiches reminded me of a Saturday Night Live sketch from way back when John Belushi was still alive.
People went into a restaurant and no matter what food they tried to order from the menu they were told they were out and they should order a cheeseburger. When they tried to order fries with that they were told no fries, chips. When they tried to order a drink from the menu they were told all they had was Pepsi.
Easy math.
