I'm so happy to hear that I'm not the only one! For the most part, I still love my fabric of years now with the price of a charm pack costing double of what I paid a few years ago, I have an appreciation for my stash and am now using it. I'm now making a quilt with fabric I bought almost 3 years ago. Simple reason is that I can't afford the outrageous new prices and have no more room for these emotional purchases in my sewing room. The prices are certainly a A great reason to use what I have! Thanks so much for your video!

I have a friend who moved up from Florida. When she got here we were sorting through 17 rubber made tubs of fabric. We put a lot of it together in 3 yd quilt packs and we are slowly sewing through those for our local Foster house. But what she had was a huge stash give away. She encouraged people to bring their fabric that they wanted to get rid of because they no longer found it lovely and we did this enormous swap among 20 of us. No money really changed hands because we were swapping fabric. However, some people did give money towards a donation to our local Foster house because they took fabric that would go with things that they had. We've really been encouraging each other to use these scraps and old fabric that might be new to them. We have had some incredible quilts come out of fabric that have been sitting in tubs or on shelves for years! I encourage you to find a group of people to do the same thing with. What you no longer like is someone may fall in love with!

Guilty!!! I started cleaning ONE of my fabric cabinets yesterday, and found sooo many layer cakes, charm packs, jelly rolls!😳 I have been using SCRAPS instead of opening these beauties. NO MORE! Perfect timing with your video! I have been laughing, laughing, and laughing! Thank you for coming to my rescue!👍💕

Yes, I buy gorgeous fabric and put it in my sewing room while I sew with the stuff I've had for awhile. A year or so later, and I've fallen out of love with the fabric!! But if I don't sew with the older fabric, I feel guilty. This was a good video for me, because I didn't realize I was doing this and maybe the issue really is to sew with the fabric I'm in love with first and enjoy the process so much more.

You are so right!!! I have some fabric that I bought over 30 years ago and have still not made up. It is almost too late for me to turn over a new leaf as I am now almost 78. My family has plenty of quilts and now I have a small cottage with limited space for hanging wall quilts. So sew while you can and enjoy all that fabric before it gets old.😊😊😊❤

I agree with you! Our taste changes over time so why not do something now with the pretty fabric we just recently bought. I just got out my fabric drawer of precuts and grabbed the patterns
I’ve bought in the past along with any additional fabric I might need. Once I did that, each project went in an XLG ziplock bag. Now I can grab a project whenever I want and start cutting and sewing. I might even start cutting all the pieces in each bag so then I can just start sewing. Thanks for bringing up the subject!!!

I’ve been piecing for 3 years so I’m enjoying this journey. I always admired everyone’s stash in the backgrounds of their videos sitting on shelves. I am learning of all the designers and their fabric lines and patterns. So I love watching how people piece quilts since I’m taught through videos I watch. Thank you for the advice.

I think the key takeaway message is to stop buying fabric. We buy way more fabric than we actually have the time to use it.

I'm a scrappy quilter with lots of old, new, and thrifted fabrics. I mix old & new, whatever, when it strikes my fancy. I'm just happy to be sewing when I get the opportunity!

I started my quilting journey in 2018. I have bought precut bundles of fabric that I love and were on sale without a project for them. I am trying, key work here is trying, to be more intentional with what I am buying and why. There's just much beautiful fabric out there 😊

I love the idea of finding new fabric and going ahead and making it up right away! The older that no longer is exciting can go into scrappy quilts. It works perfect for those.

This is so true...I used to "use up" my old, less liked fabrics to get them out of the way and 'save' the new fabric for some glorious future project. What's funny is I just, after 30 years, have had those quilts long-armed and I recognize the fabrics I just wanted to "get rid of". While I do like the finished product, they were not the quilts I wanted to make. Excellent topic and so true for many of us Michelle.

I am guilty of this also! Took a quilting class 30 years ago and started my stash birding then!! Got yards on sale and still have some of them! I am determined to use up the old stuff too! Thank you

I haven’t bought new fabric for 5years because I challenged myself to use up some of my old fabrics. I have had a ball doing that and just bought some new ones and wow the new colors and fabrics are so much fun. I am loving the new fabrics as much as the old ones. So I agree, use your new fabrics.

What a great reminder. I do order fabric that I want to and do use right away but I have to admit there are some beautiful fabrics that I have not used. I will be focusing on those now that I have watched your video. Thank you and thanks to the person who brought this to your attention.

I think YOU have been studying my sewing room! I’ve got so much “stash” that I’m using it to make charity baby blankets this year. I’m hoping to use it up & delight some new moms. Since I no longer know why I purchase much of it, I’m enjoying thinking of the babies who will enjoy their quilts. Your idea is great. I’m trying not to purchase new cloth until I’ve finished many, many, many, …. Again, thanks!
