Drying organic layer using magnesium sulfate

In this video you see how the organic layer can be dried using magnesium sulfate. Usually organic layers after extraction must be dried to get rid of the remaining water. Here the organic layer is Diethyl ether. Almost all other organic solvents absorb little amounts of water during the extraction step. To take the trapped water out of the organic layer, chemists usually use dry sodium or magnesium sulfate.
