"Let me see here. His heart would be on the left but in the mirror it'd be on the right. Course, we is both facing the same way and the gun is upside down. So, best not to play it too fancy."

There is no better example of gallows humor than James Franco looking over at another guy in the gallows and asking, "Your first time?"

Let me tell you, buddy
There's a faster gun
Coming over yonder
When tomorrow comes

Let me tell you, buddy
And it won't be long
Till you find yourself singing
Your last cowboy song

Yippee-ki-iy-ay
When the round-up ends
Yippee-ki-iy-ay
And the campfire dims

Yippee-ki-iy-ay
He shouts and he sings
When a cowboy trades his spurs for wings

When they wrap my body
In the thin linen sheet
And they take my six irons
Pull the boots from my feet

Unsaddle my pony
She'll be itching to roam
I'll be halfway to heaven
Under horsepower of my own

Yippee-ki-iy-ay
When the round-up ends
Yippee-ki-iy-ay
And the campfire dims

Yippee-ki-iy-ay
He shouts and he sings
When a cowboy trades his spurs for wings

Yippee-ki-iy-ay
I'm glory-bound
No more jingle jangle
I lay my guns down

Yippee-ki-iy-ay
He shouts and he sings
When a cowboy trades his spurs for wings

My grandpa loved his country music
Everytime we were in the car
It was more country
It drove me mad sometimes
He picked me up fro school every day until high school, made me breakfast, I had parents but he’d take care of me every morning
But when I lost him..
it became *more* than just country...the somber slow ticking of those strings pluck my heart strings every time too
He knew the words to every song
And that cowboy traded his spurs for wings 4 years ago now...
But these tunes cut me like it happened today
We lost him in a matter of 6 weeks
He was sick.. than he wasn’t
But this music always put his right back, singing in the drivers seat

It will be a shame if this song isn't considered for a Best Song Oscar. It sounds like it was written back in the late 1800's.

The best part about the ending of the Scruggs segment is the text on the last page: It mentions that they were sending him to God, "as he sent so many others, and we pray you do not send him back."

The whole movie is about death, buster dealt with death as happily as his disposition was, the second guy was a bit darker but more confident in death, the disabled fella knew he was going to be killed so he was just trying to hand around for as long as possible. such a brilliant movie

This song fills me with an odd mix of feelings, perhaps almost bittersweet. On the one hand, I feel sad for Buster's death even though he lived by the pistol and thus died by it. On the other hand, it fills me with hope when Buster marks that "there's just gotta be a place up ahead, where men ain't low down, and poker's played fair. If there weren't, what are all the songs about?"

There's just gotta be a place up ahead where men ain't low down and pokers played fair. If there weren't, what'r all the songs about?

The scene when he makes the guy shoot himself with the table made my dad laugh harder than I'd seen him laugh in a while :)

There’s just gotta be a place up ahead, where men ain’t low down, and poker’s played fair. If there weren’t, what are all the songs about? I’ll see y’all there. And we can sing together and shake our heads over all the meanness of the used to be.
