This is the Nexus 7 by ASUS, the world's first quad-core seven inch tablet running the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean release of Google's mobile operating system. Despite its cutting edge hardware, it still has an affordable price tag.

It's designed to be super portable -- from its small size and scratch-resistant Corning Fit glass display to its 9.5 hour battery life and 340g weight. It really feels like a device you can take with you anywhere.

It's not short on power, thanks to the 1.3GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and 12-core GPU -- great for gaming, web browsing or just running multiple apps. There's also a low power battery saving fifth core, which kicks in for less strenuous activities like playing music, watching video or standby.

The screen may be compact, but it still packs 1,280x800 pixels so you can watch HD videos at full quality. ASUS TruVivid technology improves both the clarity and brightness and as it's an IPS panel you get ultra-wide 178 degree viewing angles.

The textured back is comfortable to hold and provides extra grip, and its size and weight make it feel similar to holding a paperback book.

It's designed to make the most of Android 4.1, also known as Jelly Bean. Dual microphones in the top and the side mean it can pick up audio for voice searches no matter which way you're holding it. GPS lets you tap into the new features like Google Now, so you can see the latest travel info around you or interesting places to visit nearby.

Google Play brings together all your entertainment options in one place, with four million books, millions of music tracks, thousands of HD movies and over 600,000 apps and games.

The Nexus 7 takes the best Android has to offer and squeezes it into a tablet you'll want to take with you everywhere.

For some it is but if your like me and you carry around memory sticks on your keys you can get a cable that allows you to plug USB devices into the micro USB :)
Oh and you can also use things like mice and keyboards.

I was worried about that too, but with a quick root you can download an app like stickmount. With that you can connect a usb otg cable and use a flash drive/sd card. For about 15 bucks I'll have about 24 gigs of storage.

That is indeed a problem. I plan on using spotify to cut down on music space use so I can have more space for apps and such though.

I have pre-ordered this and am looking forward to playing around on it and seeing all it has to truly offer, it's just a shame Google Play Music will not be released here in the UK in time for use on the device. I hope Google get on with it and move to push the their music service to the UK and beyond.

I was wondering, since the microusb can be used as a host usb port with an adapter can you use a flash drive to expand memory?

That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing =)

I was talking about a Bluray HD which is what I usually see but I guess BRrip/BDrip is fine.
And of course pics don't take up so much but music is essential. I'm not gonna carry a tablet+phone+mp3 player so the music either goes on phone or on the tablet and since my phone's battery is more important then tablet it is.
What's more important than pics or music is actually apps which I didn't mention.
Hey I'm just saying it wouldn't hurt to have an SD expansion, I'm not saying I won't buy it.

what about a few seasons of your favourite tv show? at least 32 gig would be cool.

Well yeah, that's the thing that has been bothering me! =P
The main advantage as we all now is that this being a flagship device will get all the updates first and those who have Android know what hassle is to search for the right ROM for your device.

And you do well to do so. Unfortunately Spotify like many other cloud entertainment devices are not available in my country so...that sucks! =/

on a 8Gb model you have about 5Gb available memory. An HD 720p movie is about 5Gb.

Where the rest of the space for music, photos and documents?

Even on the 16Gb that's still an issue. I can easily fill my ipod with 8Gb of music.

If the available memory on the 16gb is about 13Gb (5+8) and I fill it up with 8Gb and a 720p music I have nothing left.

I'm giving the example of a movie because for me that's a big deal since there's netflix or hulu or other service like that to stream it.

720p is hd too. So what he means is that hd videos dont have to be compromised for a non hd display

HD =1280x800 and full HD = 1920x1080. Read the description properly :)

How is 1280x800 capable of playing full HD video? It's well short of 1920x1080.

The lack of Sd expansion is a killer though =/

wait i don't get it, does the battery actually holds it up to 9h with constant use, like listen to music, watching movies, playing games, searching the web, without actually stopping, or does the 9h means playing now then rest in idle mode?... because my iphone only last 2 to 2.30h of constant use, if i start to play 3D games like "#ModernCombat3", but with music it last 3/4h with GSM on, and 6/7h with AIRPLANE mode on...until it reaches 10%.

The nexus 7 is meant to be a cloud device, Google/Asus is trying to get us to use their cloud services.(drive and Web storage)
And with WiFi hotspots and mobile hotspots from phones, the cloud is quite accessible.
Just my opinion though..
