When Christopher Nolan announced that he'd be tackling the controversial topic of America's most horrifying scientific advancement, we're pretty sure no one expected it was going to involve so much nudity.

Oppenheimer was apparently quite the player.

I just saw the film and I definitely jumped during the jarring nude/sex scenes
But I liked what they were trying to do: the camera kept cutting from the sex scene in the government room to Kitty, Oppenheimer’s wife, then back and forth. The scene was obviously a nightmarish sequence for Kitty, as the image of her husband cheating on her is the only thing she can picture as oppenheimer’s womanizing habits are brought out in full public display. It also helps to know that during this scene, there is slow, creepy music brought out, almost supernatural, surreal-like.

Rest in peace for all the parents that went with their kids and had this come out of NOWHERE

I never thought I would see nudity, sex and swearing in a Christopher Nolan movie, cos none of his previous movies had them.

It's supposed to convey what his wife is thinking about as he confesses to an affair. It's meant to be trippy and show her horror, not be sexy. It isn't funny either. No one laughed at my screening, because we were adults.

If you don’t like a lot of dialogues that makes a great movie, you will not like Oppenheimer.

I didn't find it surprising at all, it fits the narrative, also the part where he is naked during the government interegation its supposed to be symbolic, he is being gaslighted and is literally naked in front of them because he's has to explain everything and is being accused of things unfairly

No one in my packed theatre laughed. Some gasped. Someone beside me said, "oh no." So we were really in it.

For anyone who knows Oppenheimer's story, him being a ladies man is not news.

The sex scene clearly had an effect during and afterwards, it showed Kitty’s emotions, without that it wouldn’t have that effect… I guess people are just ashamed to watch such thing and they ignore how it plays a part in the development of the scene.

No, it was the nudity and sex that was shocking, not the protagonist's turmoil.

Nolan could have avoided those scenes, and not one ounce of meaning would have been lost. Furthermore, this landmark, crucial movie would have been accessible to younger audiences as well. But no, Nolan had to go and make this awkward.

SPOILERS-

It is directly relevant to the script. I’ve only seen the film once, but there was something to the effect of - why won’t you fight? You are leaving us naked to the world/defenceless.

It’s an awesome moment that shows how such horrible interrogations really make you feel. The same could be said of the trials that we laud on television. Most recently heard v depp, they probably felt naked at multiple times in that.

And kitty, Oppenheimer’s wife. Didn’t want the whole world to know about the affair. It’s personal.

Extraordinary, daring film making.

And yes, it’s R Rated for this reason.

That scene with his wife was actually beautiful. The previous nude scenes were unnecessary and Cillian looked like he wanted to curl into a ball.

Who ever giggled at this scene are incapable of empathy. That scene was in the eyes of the wife and showed the scar of heart break.

This was Emily Blunt’s best scene ever. Making eye contact with her husband’s lover riding him and then turning away was magnificent. Perhaps the best scene in the entire movie.

Probably the best scene in the whole movie. It practically shows how Oppenheimer was ostracised, his private life cracked open for everyone to see.

So glad i went with my mate on this one. Would have been so cringe and awkward with my parents.

Talking about this scene without mentioning the dialogue does an extreme disservice to everyone involved in its creation

So annoyed at sex and nudity in movies. I don’t go to movies to be violated or to observe others being violated in front of camera crews and the entire audience. I can never overcome the reality that these were real people, really exposing themselves. I can’t stand it. It ruined Titanic for me, it ruined Oppenheimer for me. I truly hate it. Imagine asking someone how they ended up married and while they told you the tale it culminated with a vivid recollection of their first sexual encounter, then second… THAT sort of thing DOES ruin the story and break our genuine empathy for the story as we are completely side-swiped by matters of private intimacy and lust.

What's Hollywood's obsession with pointless Obligatory sex scenes that don't further the story.
