I use Lodge cast iron for a perfect steak, and this video shows you everything you need to know about cooking a great steak in a cast iron pan.

Master these THREE THINGS and Your next Steak is going to be as good as what you get at your favorite Steakhouse. Learn the basics and the next steak you make will be the best "made at home" steak you've ever had. I'll show you all the steps to cooking a perfect Steak in a Lodge Cast-Iron Skillet.

1. Dry off any surface water. Season the meat (lots of salt and pepper) and let it sit for about an hour
2. In a very hot pan, dribble some oil and lay in the steak
3. Add lots of unsalted butter and baste
(1 - 2 minutes depending on how you like it cooked)
4. Flip the meat, keep basting.
5. Take it off the heat, let it sit for 8 - 10 minutes.
6. Slice it up and EAT THAT STEAK
7. Repeat until completely satiated

A friend of mine from PA made his steaks the same way in the 80's, 60 seconds a side. He was ahead of his time, I still only ate steak well done before I realized they taste better not cooked to a carbonized mass.

pretty simple. I've seen this basic technique before. As eccentric as you are I expected something bizarre. But no, the tried and true method seems to prevail.

I too, use the finger method. Im the odd dude who sometimes wants a rare steak but, at times, i enjoy it well-done. It depends on the steak and/or my mood.
