Syringe Parts

A typical 10 cc syringe consists of several parts. Here are the main components:

Barrel: This is the main body of the syringe, usually made of transparent plastic or glass. It has volume markings to indicate the amount of fluid being drawn or dispensed.

Plunger: The plunger is a movable rod or piston that fits inside the barrel. It is used to draw in or push out the fluid. The plunger usually has a rubber or silicone seal at its end to create a tight seal with the barrel.

Plunger Handle: The plunger handle is attached to the plunger and is used to control its movement. It provides a grip for the user to push or pull the plunger.

Luer Lock Tip: The Luer lock is a standardized fitting at the end of the syringe barrel. It has a male thread that allows for a secure connection with other devices such as needles, catheters, or extension tubing. It prevents accidental disconnection during use.

Needle: Although the needle is not a part of the syringe itself, it is commonly used in conjunction with syringes. Needles come in various lengths and gauges and are attached to the Luer lock tip for injecting or withdrawing fluids.

Cap: Some syringes may come with a protective cap that covers the Luer lock tip. The cap helps maintain sterility and prevents contamination when the syringe is not in use.

It's important to note that the specific design and materials used in syringes can vary among different manufacturers.
