This exception raises when you purchase a new laptop or desktop like Dell, Lenovo,Acer,HP,Compac they are booted with UEFI mode enable by default for some security reasons. so you need to disable this UEFI mode and let your PC be in legacy mode to continue with the Ubuntu installation or default Ubuntu boot.

Worked for me. Though my setting was different than yours cause I am using a HP laptop. I just selected 'Legacy' option on boot option. And it worked!
