USAA is a great insurance company. It’s not the reason why I served in the military, but it is one of the reasons why I’m glad that I did.

Correction. USAA eligibility only passes from Parent to Child. A relative does not automatically qualify, but depending on the circumstances may be eligible to be added to an eligible members policy. Also eligible spouses can pass their eligibility through divorce or death.

Actually, USAA you CAN get as a grandchild of a military service member. Here’s the catch. Their direct descendent, aka your parent, has had to have gotten USAA at least once in their lifetime for insurance. I was able to sign up for USAA because my mom once had them for insurance, even though she no longer used them— they just had to have that record that she’s used it before. It continues down the generational chain— if my child were to never get it at all, and then grandchild tried to apply for USAA they wouldn’t get it.
