What a fantastic show. The best era for US cars (pre-5mph bumpers and catalytic converters).

An idea for the summer of 2023 is station wagons!

Oh man, this is the kind of exhibition that I like the most. Ok, I'm Italian and I know all the great stuff coming from my country but, these land yachts are to me the real stuff of dream. By the way: I own a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 and I love it!

Love that Packard Carribean. Looks like a beautiful exhibition. Land Yachts are sometimes forgotten classics. But not in our minds.😎👍❤🍷

Back in the day these were the height of American consumer culture. Great concept where millions of Americans can relate.

Another excellent presentation. Bravo to the Audrain Museum, its preeminent collection of automobiles, owners, enthusiasts, and it's elegant CEO and presenter Donald Osborne. I'm seriously considering the purchase of a 1964 Imperial Crown Coupe and this episode may have helped make my decision to purchase. Thank you and keep providing your highest quality content.

I like all cars but land yachts are my favorite. And you can happily own a lesser collectable yacht for little money. Although maintaining and restoring one can be difficult. Bit aren't they all on some level

As I hope most people will agree, I have 0 interest in super cars that most people will never be able to afford. This is one exhibit I would 100% enjoy!

Younger friends ask me why there was such emphasis on a smooth boulevard ride with soft springs and cushy interiors. I think the reason is that the men and women who engineered and designed these cars grew up when cars and roads were still quite primitive in much of the country. A smooth, effortless, carefree drive was the ultimate goal after the rutted, muddy, dirt and gravel roads that predominantly criss crossed the country prior to WWII. Hence the achievement of the automatic transmission was a milestone of modern living.

I'm sitting here wondering what angle is going to be used in substantiating the '57 Thunderbird and the '66 Olds 442 as being Land Yachts. The term Land-Yacht imparts thought akin to spacious watercraft with the utmost comfort. It only makes sense that the land version would be of comfort, as in Cadillac, Lincoln, Imperial and others. Whereas the cramped interior of the Thunderbird and the stiff suspension of the Olds 442 don't correspond similarly. This leave me to wonder if the intention here is to branch into what is understood by older people as the former use of the term, Road Car. Something that I can describe for those younger as being mastery in the way a mid-1980's Chevrolet IROC or Pontiac Trans Am travels down an Interstate. It's going to interesting learning how the museum makes the categorizations here.

I have an American land yacht from the 90’s.

I miss the "Land Yachts" of the past. Our Cadillac SUV has factory low profile tires and a 'sport turned' suspension. You feel every bump and crack in the road, not how a Cadillac should ride. But on the plus side it can get up to 30 MPG... so there's that.

I owned 2 "land yachts" lol, a 1969, 4 door Buick LeSabre, power everything, and a 1973, 2 door, Olds Delta '88....omg the doors on that '88 must have been 6 feet long and weighed at least 500 lbs each, lol

"Land Yacht" means SIZE, and specifically in automobiles - LENGTH. The T-Bird, Super Bee and 442 are NOT "land yachts" by any stretch of the imagination.
