Roger Martin - Playing to Win

I am a man who has no formal training in business, but I can pick up on much of what Roger Martin is saying very well. That is a testament to his level of understanding. Some of the things he said I was even able to predict as I was able to understand what he meant.

This is the worst audience for this talk. Firms like Deloitte focus on efficiency and tech consulting. They never provide a framework of choices to their customers, which one of the most important lessons of the book. Still glad someone uploaded this. Great stuff.

as with most things if you're comfortable and satisfied with what you're doing now you won't change so I don't expect you to change because you're not sufficiently uncomfortable with the destructive aspects of what you currently do

This man is very wise, he acknowledges that he cannot bend the world and his life to his own will. Once you accept that about life, everything changes and everything begins to make sense.

People lock on to the the 5 questions and get stuck in a linear sequence (which doesnt exist) because they look at them as OUTCOMES, rather than ATTRIBUTES/CHARACTERISTIC of an OUTCOME that have the ability to change form at any given moment,

I have a hard time to focus on the talk. But I believe Martin is great and the talk is still gold. Just need a better way to communicate with audience. Really hard to focus on the talk even in early morning

I would propose that you CANNOT WIN and you CANNOT LOSE, you can just have a clearer defined outcome. For example, I can draw a horse with two 4 lines, or I can draw a horse with 800 lines, or I could draw a horse with a certain colour palette or I could draw a horse in all colours. Any outcome I end up with is a gift, it was not of my control, I just focused my effort.

the only way these strategic questions could be outcomes are if you were GOD and can bend the world to your will. in a sense, looking at the questions as outcomes is the apotheosis of strategy, it is THE anti strategy.

Mr Martin has poor delivery but invokes interests in strategy. Better Grasp can ne got by reading his book.
