Expired Medicine: What Do I Do With It? - #TossItTuesday

Expired medicine… I could write a dissertation on this topic, but here’s a super short CliffsNotes version. It turns out it’s not as dangerous as we think to continue to use expired medicine. However, medicine does lose its potency as it ages so the longer it is passed its expiration date the less effective it will be & the more unhappy you may be the next time you seek its healing powers. Now, please note, expiration dates do carry more weight when we are talking about managing serious health issues like diabetes, heart disease, etc. In addition, disposal of serious prescription drugs such as narcotics & opioids should be handled differently… preferably through drug take-back programs. However, on this #TossItTuesday we're focusing on the less serious, over-the-counter stuff (cold medicine, headache medicine, etc) that clutters our medicine cabinets, linen closets, kitchen cabinets or wherever you keep your stash. Go through it this week & follow this FDA approved method to safely dispose of those ancient elixirs & pills that will no longer do the job as well as you need them to. #JPtips
