So funny - I was a bank teller/personal banker for 5 years before I switched to School Counseling! Will be on my 3rd year this coming year!

I'm about to be in 11th grade, Alabama. I've always wanted to be an English teacher, and an author on the side. Last year I got really interested in psychology and considered therapy. This video helped me realize I can stay on my path as an English teacher and help people realize their passions and help their skills through writing.

Watching from New York City. I was touched by your story with the student who recently migrated to the country. I just finished my BA and I think I've found what I'll be doing for graduate school! School counseling seems to be a very rewarding career!

Hi! I am a 7th grade student from Kentucky. And I have been thinking about what I want to do when I get older. Right now my heart is set on becoming a school counselor. I’m home schooled so I have never had a school counselor m, but helping children with their academic and mental health sounds really cool :)

Watching you from CA. I’m currently a 5th grade teacher who was offered an elementary counselor position but now am waiting for someone to fill my position before I can transition over. I got my masters 12 years ago and can finally have the chance to use it now that schools are finally realizing how important they are. Thanks for your channel and Facebook group to help me feel more prepared for this position.

I worked in the mental health field doing admissions and mental health assessments before. This experience helps me a lot with crisis moments. I'm heading into my 2nd year with my middle school position, I love it!

Thank you for sharing your journey! I am currently debating between going the route of student counselor vs special education teacher. I’m about to pick my master’s degree and I’m stuck. I love both! I have 8 years of working with special education children but I also love sitting down and having one on one conversations to help children with problems. Idk what to do!!

Hello! Pennsylvania here. Just came across your video now. I got my M.Ed + K-4 teacher certificate back in 2019. I've been a teacher's aide, summer school teacher, intervention LTS, and most recently, had my own full contract Kindergarten classroom. I decided not sign a contract for this school year, but have been currently day to day subbing to stay busy. Recently, I've thought about going back to school to become a school counselor. Felt the same way during your "why I left the classroom" section of your video.

Hello from Chicago! I'm watching YouTubers share their experiences with being school guidance counselors. I know it's what I want to do, I'm just trying to decide which age group I'd be best with. I see your Pros and Cons of counseling each grade level popping up, so that's where I'm headed next! Thanks for sharing your story :)

Tuning in from Georgia. I’m a first-year Special Education Teacher and MAT degree student. In my classroom I do a lot of SEL lessons and really enjoy it. Through this experience I have developed an interest in becoming a school counselor and plan on making the transition once I finish my MAT degree.

Watching from Phoenix. Former teacher working on the journey to becoming a counselor. Decided to stick with my professional counseling program and gain experience from the mental health side (most likely school-based therapy) and then if I am missing and eager to get back in the school setting and less about the therapy, then I can always become a school counselor. So, I really appreciated what you said about your experience and the skills gained from your time as a mental health professional. Thank you so much for taking the time to create these videos and sharing your knowledge. You are inspiring!
