Today, we compare the SAMSUNG QN90D VS the SONY BRAVIA 7 at 75". Both are excellent TVs with amazing picture quality . They are also both an excellent value as we approach black Friday and the holiday season.

The Samsung QN90D was supplied by Samsung.
The Sony Bravia 7 was provided by Sony.
Both are loaners that will be returned to the manufacturers.

Special thanks to the Amazing Jennifer Gala and her second channel HDR SUPER CHANNEL.

Brian, after watching your QN90D vs. U8N comparison, I'm really looking forward to your QN85D vs. U8N comparison you mentioned is coming. I went through a couple of mini-LEDs myself before landing on the QN85D—one of them being the U8N, and the other the QM851. While the U8N was overall impressive, I couldn’t deal with its inconsistent black levels. The letterbox bars would shift from inky black to light gray depending on what was on the screen, and in low-light scenes, the entire screen—including the letterbox bars—would brighten to try and preserve shadow detail. This made it unwatchable for me in a dark room.

The TCL was also solid, but the motion handling and color production didn’t quite meet my standards. As a last resort, I tried the Samsung, with low expectations due to its relatively fewer dimming zones compared to the TCL and Hisense. However, I’ve always been impressed with my older Samsung Q8FN, which had just 40 dimming zones but delivered consistently deep black levels with no fluctuation in letterbox bars. Colors on that older Samsung model were also exceptional, so I decided to give the QN85D a shot.

Turns out, the QN85D outperformed both the U8N and the TCL in black level consistency and overall image quality. The letterbox bars stay inky black, no matter what’s on screen, and the color production is a big step up from the TCL and Hisense. It’s honestly the best-looking mini-LED I’ve seen—not the brightest, but the overall picture quality is outstanding. It even beats out the QN90D in a lot of key areas such as color gamut coverage, vastly better native contrast ratio, EOTF tracking, HDR native gradient and uniformity.

After some digging, I discovered that Samsung took a unique, almost “old-school” approach with the QN85D, making it virtually the only TV they’ve released since 2018 to use this design philosophy. Unlike their recent models that rely heavily on high local dimming zones to make up for low native contrast, the QN85D features a high native contrast panel with a modest number of dimming zones. This provides a rock-solid baseline black level without depending entirely on local dimming algorithms, which can often be flawed. With fewer dimming zones, it also puts less load on the processor, allowing for a much better algorithm than what Samsung typically uses.

The result is one of the most refined pictures I’ve seen on a mini-LED, and it’s surprising this TV isn’t getting more attention. I think it’s one of the best mini-LEDs on the market, and I’m excited to see your comparison video- it'll smoke the U8N! When will this video drop?

I love Sony, but QN90D looks better to me. I don’t know which suppose to be better as I didn’t do research and looked up the numbers, but as I said, I prefer Samsung here.

I usually like Sony TV's because of processing and upscaling, but Samsung off angle viewing is much better, and filmmaker mode looked really good. Braving 7 75" right now at Bestbuy in Canada is $400 cheaper than the QN90D.

Samsung has better local dimming, better viewing angles, better coating, and even more Oled like depth. Sony wins in only 1 category as always processing

The Samsung is more saturated at equivalent settings. I prefer the Sony because it looks more natural.

Yo Brian, whats up Bud.. been awhile.. Great Video as always, Its interesting as both of these trade shots equally... some scenes look better on the QN90D and others on the B7.. pretty equal overall...

I have to say the QN90D looks very similar to my new to me.... 85" (QN90B) which I am loving... probably due to the Fact Samsung went back to "VA" Panels as opposed to "ADS" on the

Have to give you Props Brian for getting me into the "Heavyweight Division" the jump from 75" to 85" is amazing... Thanks

Actually, it just occurred to me Brian, you should also do a QN85D vs QN90D comparison video. I bet the QN85D will surprise you by having the better picture quality overall. As mentioned, it beats out the QN90D In some of the most fundamentally important aspects of picture quality; Color gamut coverage and native contrast ratio- which in my opinion is so important when it comes to color production and overall black level performance. It would be really interesting to see.

Qn90d without a doubt has much better contrast.this means even if it's less accurate on the presets it has much more headroom.im surprised because fomo said that the b7 meet or beat the Bravia 9 on some scenes.

The Bravia seven is a good TV but with that said, I think the Sony X90L looks better. They are side-by-side in my Best Buy’s. I think Sony dropped the ball with the Bravia 7 a little bit not that it’s a bad TV. Its just that last years TV starting at X90L and above look better. As for comparing these two TVs to Bravia seven is the better looking TV in my opinion. Also as somebody that can see the Statue of Liberty fairly often, I could tell you that the Sony TV definitely has the color correct, even though it’s CGI in this video. Its does look closer to what the color looks like in real life. Details in the blues and green definitely superior on Sony. Sony Bravia seven definitely Wins this
