9 months later and this video is STILL helping people.
Thank you for making this.

A lot of us play both PC and console, so this is appreciated.

I did this expansion months ago with the exact same M.2 drive. Works brilliantly, especially notice the difference after using a USB SSD for a year while I waited for them to unlock the software for the drive. Amazing speed for a console.

I don't have a PS5 or PC but I just like watching Jay being nice and informational😄

Dude….I was trying to remove the cover for like 30mins! I was on my 2nd highball when I seen your video and took it off in 2 seconds!😂 I got the WD Black 850 2TB “For PlayStation”. Thanks Jay!

Others have already mentioned this, but people have tested thermals with different ps5 heatsink, and the best ones replace the cover completely (Sabrent makes the most popular one of these) it also actually works better if you just don't put the silver cover plate back on, despite what Sony might claim.

I just installed an M.2 SSD in my PS5 thanks to this video. I opted for a different brand & separate heatsink but I am so grateful for simple tutorial videos like these that give me the confidence to do these kinds of things myself. Thanks!

Already did this, but I love to see the support to help others improve their own devices.

I would be so interested to see what the temp differences are between having the cover on vs off and how that could affect performance.

To turn off the console, press the PS button and scroll over on the bottom to the 2nd to last icon and select it. Then you can select Power Off & Rest Mode. If you hold the PS button, that is for going back to the home screen if you're in a game or other menu... it will do nothing if you're on the home screen. It will just make a sound.

Really enjoying my time with the PS5. I expanded with a XPG 1TB and its been fantastic. While I have both this and the Series X, my PS5 gets basically all my gaming time. The Dualsense is fantastic.

Perfect timing on this video. I had just been thinking about upgrading the storage on my PS5 and was too lazy to look up how to do it, so getting a video from Jay in my feed was awesome.

Jay is my favorite goto guy for all things tech so when I wanted to quickly see how easy it is to upgrade storage on a PS5, I was glad to see he was top of the search.

I bought a WD Black SN850 and coupled that with the Sabrent heatsink for my PS5. Perfect fit. NASCompares has done extensive testing on heatsinks for it and found the Sabrent heatsink to be one of the best for managing heat dissipation and it maintains the design that Sony intended. So far, so good! And if I ever choose to upgrade it to let's say 4tb in the future, I can always repurpose this drive into my PC.

Thank you. The Sony video didn’t have an actual person walking through the steps. Your video showing you do it in real time was very helpful!

Funny enough Jay when you mentioned older consoles being a pain to upgrade storage that was mainly xbox since the ps3 and ps4 where as simple as remove the cover swap in a compatible drive and put the cover back on

Not gonna lie, would LOVE to see more console videos. I know you guys are busy but they have come a long way from back in the day. Imagine they can do some pretty cool stuff.
