Chiropractor Records in Social Security Disability Claims: will they be considered?

Social Security does not consider chiropractors as an “acceptable medical source” for purposes of disability determination.

In its Program Operations Manual (POMS) at DI 22505.003, SSA characterizes chiropractors, naturopaths, and similar therapists as a non-AMS provider. At the same time, your chiropractor’s records will be considered but not given much weight.

As I discuss in this video, my experience has been that chiropractic records can be used to demonstrate that you did receive on-going medical care, but the conclusions and diagnoses of your chiropractor will most likely not be used by the judge to decide whether or not you are disabled.

SSA’s position on chiropractic and similar treatment may seem unfair, especially if you cannot afford traditional medical treatment or if standard medical care is not providing relief, but your judge does not have the authority to ignore SSA’s program guidance on this issue. #degenerativediscdisease #symptomsofdegenerativediscdisease #backpain #chiropractictreatment #chiropractorsandsocialsecuritydisability

I just received a letter notifying me of an appointment they scheduled for me a physical evaluation with a chiropractor from my SSDi case worker! So apparently they are now giving more weight to a chiropractic doctor evaluation.

What about when one's primary care physician (PCP) specifically refers them to a chiropractor for treatment? My PCP within the Veteran's Administration gives me acupuncture treatments himself, as well as, refers me to chiropractic care. Which is worse in the eyes of social security, following doctors' orders or disobeying them?

I been on disability since 2006 for several major medical issues.I had two back surgeries since being on disability. I'm having my first ever CDR and I was sent two long forms and now going through a full medical review. The social security CDR agent is sending me to a chiropractor in two weeks( my guess is to close the case) and terminate my benifits. Even though I'm seeing a neurologist. I'm afraid she will terminate my benifits under the guise of the chiropractor word.

What about the new changes in 2017 that allows adjudicator's to use non approved medical opinions. During my CDR I sent the adjudicator my two back surgeries 10 years after being awarded benifits. She immediately sent me an appointment to see their chiropractor. I did understand you when you said "right now chiropractor's opinions aren't given any weight".I just wonder why she's sending me to a chiropractor?

What about x-rays and physical exam test results which fall into an objective medical record category?

Mr Ginsberg, I just viewed your video on Chiropractor records, I don't go to a Chiropractor but I just received my notice for a CE, and the doctor they are sending me to is a Chiropractor, Is this standard? I'm a little confused by this, any info you can give would help me greatly.

What about things like ketamine infusions calmare pain therapy a pain / neuro performs would that count? It's not covered under insurance and is quite expensive I've been debating using my Backpage try one of these treatments however I'm not sure whether these are considered alternative treatments or not they are done by regular doctors but are not mainstream therapies because of their cost

What if you failed all western medicine for your condition? Im up for review next year and Idk what to do I already even tried the same western meds some of them 2 or 3 times. Physical therapy 9 rounds. There are no more meds or treatment thats why im so confused why i was put up for review in 12 months unless theres a cure or med coming out soon that is a gamechanger but ive heard nothing to suggest this from my providers. I walk in doc reviews my records says sorry cant help you youve done everything i could suggest in some cases more than once i dont have anywhere to send you or anything 2 prescribe. They tell me its acceptance time. They made this clear in thier reports too I think the judge didnt like my age and thats the only reason my review is so soon. Hey I didn't like getting sick at such a young age either but my age doesnt correlate into treatable theres no cure only trying 2 manage thru meds if u can tolerate them which i cant.
