I dont think this is a prequel. one, Chara's dead so, that should be enough to disprove it. two, This human is taller and older. three, Gerson is dead as well. Monster kid is older and looks different. But... Undyne doesn't know who Alphys is. She should know who the love of her life is. This seems like an alternate timeline or universe. Also, KRIS doesn't have DETERMINATION so why would Chara be in their body? they seem to have courage or will or something like that. Closing thoughts: This game looks very... very interesting.

Ok..seeing the comments I came up with my little theory about chapter 2...but ill shorten it...Susie might see what's wrong with Kris and go into deltarune (new underground) and get help from lancer and ralsie (forgot the spelling) to go and save Kris from chara, cause in post genocide chara talked about another world...this world...and moved on to destroy it like their new plan intended

I just realized this isn't Kris being possessed by Chara it's Kris rejecting the player to control him because once your soul is in the cage your still able to move it which means Kris and the player are 2 different people
