I thought of this theory and I saw people on Reddit sharing the same idea: Deltarune happens in a timeline where the Human-Monster War never happened and the attrition between monsterkind and mankind is close to zero. Kris is actually Chara from this TL as he/she wears a shirt with the same themes as Chara. This could also explain why Undyne doesn't know about Alphys and why there is no one talking about the barrier. The ending of this chapter is the result of Undertale Genocide Routes: Chara uses Frisk' determination to travel between Timelines and finds the one where he/she can fester, the Deltaruneverse.

Mairusu, the graves are for Gerson, the waterfall shopkeeper and old hero who undyne idolized in her youth, the second one is for Snowdrake's mother, the amalgamate. the third is for Endogeny, another amalgamate, and the final one is for Shyren's sister, who was part of the Amalgamate Lemon Bread, in this AU, the Amalgamates never were a thing, and the door is the exit of the underground

I like the theory of Chara moving on to the Deltarune universe, but I personally like Kris just being their own messed up person more. Kris was a lot more talkative than usual according to the deer girl. Kris also seems a little sick according to the nurse. Rudy said that you used to be just the creepy kid across the street. This is because you’re controlling Kris. Kris isn’t themself here. Kris doesn’t want to be controlled by you as shown by them throwing you out of them. You can move while in the birdcage, showing how you aren’t really Kris. At the very beginning, before you control Kris, your soul needs a vessel. Your vessel ends up being Kris, but Kris is tired of being controlled by you by the end of chapter 1. That’s the theory that I prefer. Not to mention the bloodstain on Kris’s side of the room and their lack of trophies. Or any decorations at all.

The graveyard had the amalgmamates in it... the snow one was snowdrakes mother. Mutler was endogeny. Shyra was lemon bread... shyren's sister.

3 of the tombstones are references to the amalgamates. Snowdrake's mom, Endogeny, and Lemon Bread(Shyren's sister). There's no royal scientist therefor no amalgamates.
