Here's another cause for a cough. I'm not sure if there is any relation between this and cough variant asthma. This is how it works. Coughing for any reason whatever, even swallowing a drink the wrong way, irritates the throat, which causes a tickle that induces more coughing, which causes more irritation, which causes more coughing. This is a vicious cycle. I'm not a medical professional. I'm someone who has had this syndrome since being a teenager. For me, typically, once this gets started, it gets worse and worse until there's medical intervention.

I learned so much from this video than I did seeing my Doctor for the past four years. Thank you!

I’ve had a chronic cough for several months. I can feel fine for several hours and then suddenly something sets it off and can turn into wheezing at times. Turns out it’s GERD related. The number one thing that has helped is weight loss. I had gradually gained weight over the years but I have lost over 20 pounds in the last few months and still losing. Having less fat around my abdominal area has greatly improved both the GERD and cough. Other things that have helped greatly - sleep on my left side with upper body propped up, eat last meal in afternoon or early evening, avoid acidic foods later in the day, eat more fruits and vegetables and high fiber foods like oatmeal, avoid snacking between meals, avoid drinking liquids right before bedtime, good posture especially when sitting (I put a pillow behind my mid-back when sitting on the couch to prevent sitting back and slouching), walk 1 hour daily, avoid caffeine and fried and fatty foods which worsens GERD.... Also when I bend over at the waist I immediately begin coughing or cough soon afterwards, so I am conscious of finding ways not to bend over and to pick things up by bending my knees and keeping upper body upright as much as possible. Very few coughing episodes now.

Thank goodness I found this video. I was in a loss of what could be wrong. Now I can clearly speak with my physicians

Thank you so much. I can't explain how helpful this was. I went to several doctors and they examined my chest for asthma and they examined me for GERD on multiple occasions. But they could never figure out what was wrong with me. Your vid explained the symptoms and how to treat them. It's a relief. After treating the symptoms the cough is just gone. I can't express how much relief and the peace of mind that I have. After treatment I felt exhausted. I had a cough ever since I was very little. People used to stare and get annoyed by me. It was torture. I hated myself because I couldn't stop. Every "Doctor" was useless other than my current Doctor. It's a dramatic change. I can live.

Thank you so much for these videos; especially Chronic Cough, PFT etc. I've experienced almost annual Bronchial Pneumonia, or Bronchitis and Chronic Coughing lasting 3 - 4 months. 2 prescriptions of Antibiotics this year (Jan. and Mar. 2015). I am resisting family pressure and the traditional medicine approach to go for a third. I've joined a private clinic which practices an integrated medicine approach and we're investigating the 3 pronged causality outlined in your Chronic Cough video. I, at last, have hope. Thank you again.

A chronic cough improves if it is the coughing kind of asthma such as I had and my father had, eliminating dairy eliminated my asthma, and therefore my cough. I still have some allergies which means my nose runs more than some people but I no longer have any wheezing either. The amount of phlegm has been greatly reduced. Additionally removing dairy improved my skin, reduced arthritis and ended my lifelong battle with constipation. I use Soy milk now. I have also become vegan, best thing for my health. The arthritis which remained after getting off of dairy, has been reduced so that I am not spending up to 4 months per year in a wheelchair. Now I may get sore, but it does not last long, several hours vs. several weeks. My symptom of soreness is controlled by taking turmeric and works better than MoveFree.

When I had asthma, a pump or albuterol delivered by a nebulizer did not help my breathing. I eat as little processed food as I can. Limit it to like once a week.

Thank you 🙏 after my sinus surgery i stopped the nasal rinse & dry non stop cough and can’t swallow food solids for 38 days now. I am starving and beyond traumatised. Hospital treatment is beyond a joke. My brain is so traumatised can’t even speak sometimes I’m so traumatised can’t live like this and there’s no help. Trying to get to a professor before I totally lose it.

Good job. I've suffered for almost 3 months with a chronic cough after aspiration. The initial infection was cleared after a few days of antibiotics, but the cough never left. This video shed light on why my doctor ordered a bariatric test (to test for GERD), put me on Singulair (which can actually worsen GERD), and started me on asthma pills, even though I have no wheezing, . It all makes more sense now!
