When to seek medical attention for a cough

Had a coworker who had a persistent cough for a year or so. He kept seeking medical help from his doctor and medical specialists. They could not find out what was wrong with him until a half year later something showed up on an X-ray. Lung cancer which had grown into his heart sack. He lasted another 2 years with an operation and chemotherapy before passing away. May you rest in peace Al.

I went to dr about changes to my chronic cough in 2018. I had started to cough uncontrollably when the temperature changed (eg going from indoor to out). I was told I had no fever, bronchitis, go home. After being told that a couple of times I saw another doctor. It wasn't bronchitis, it was nsclc. I've been fortunate, 5 years have passed and I'm still alive.

Im getting chills in my chest or at least last night i did... I get a headache when i cough and some times I see static electricity during a cough. Having troubles breathing a bit at night.... Not sure why im saying all this here.... I dont know, i just dont want to go to the doctor because its so cold out and its hard to get around.

Symptoms from simple viruses will be most likely gone in 3 weeks. Waiting 8 weeks seems like a long time. Also Google first pop up on this is 3 weeks.

My Son has a cough that is lasting about 2 weeks now. He can't talk without having to cough. He said he had a fever that lasted a few days, then felt weak for a few days. Now it's just a dry cough. What should be take for it ?
