Did you know that in the movie Glory, in this scene, where Trip gets flogged for his lacking of military discipline, Denzel Washington requested the director that he'll be lashed at full contact with a special whip that would not cut his back, but still stung. The Director wanted to stop filming, but when he saw Denzel's real tears, he continued filming till the end. It was for this role in Glory that Denzel Washington secured his first Oscar in 1990. and went on to be one of the most iconic figures in the history of Cinema.

This movie, Glory, is a must see movie...and this scene of the flogging of Washington's character Trip was hard to watch but man, it was moving!

Denzel is the best actor and human in Hollywood. I think it was 2004-2005 when Denzel Washington toured a military base in the US and was appalled by the lack of barracks and poor state of the barracks they had for soldiers. Denzel wrote a PERSONAL check for a very large sum and told the commanding officer of the division to "get these men a better place to sleep" and build new barracks.

He never wanted any recognition and the media never mentioned it. I thought that was an absolutely incredible thing to do.
