In search from my first canoe. Transitioning from kayaking. Flat water and day tripping. Good tracking and light weight portaging.

Excellent presentation sir! In fact one of the best i have heard on this subject!. So i want two boats...one a stable and light fishing and hunting boat for short paddles on lakes yet durable and higher initial stability. Which wenonah do you recommend? The second boat needs to be a tough beater boat for river hunting and maybe some camping. Thoughts? I currently have a 16 foot penobscot which I bought used for little money. I took the center thwarts out so that I could paddle down our lake, hunt a deer with my bow, and then haul the carcass back without having to stuff it under a darned thwart. Wish someone would build a boat like that...a pick up canoe.

You are not going to run class 4 or 5 white water with an open canoe.
