I learned this having severe depression all my life. I had so much emotion, I would try to run hoping I would pass out and get a break from this world. Something happens when you go past the burn. It's almost like an enlightenment. You can apply it in other aspects of life, too. The mind over matter, desperation being the first step to invention, all the things your mind tries to run and give up on... you learn there's many levels to life. This is what saved me from depression.

No "background" music, I love that! 100% attention for the message

When I think of a philosopher, I think of Muhammad Ali. I absolutely love his poems/rhymes that he made for every interview that illustrated wisdom and a moral. He was amazing in the way he was so incredibly inspiring, while still being cheeky and very entertaining. He’s the best modern day philosopher imo.

This is an excellent clip.
I love back county camping, finishing a book in one session, mushrooms and the cold showers. I've beat heroin and meth addiction and all of those disciplines are great contributing factors for my success. The acts themselves, also the decision and focus to keep my attention on something while it's difficult.

Difficult things are definitely good for you, no matter what you've already accomplished.

Your body: “this sucks!”
Your mind: “I’m in charge here.”

When I was in the Army and went to some tactical schools and wed be in the field just sucking, id tell myself I want to quit so I’ll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow would come and id say I’ll quit tomorrow. Thats how I got through 25 mile movements with 80-100lbs on my back everyday.

Yes.
I learned it in a different way.
I used to play footbal when I was youger and there was one time in a game where we were all blown out, we were crushed, but the game wasn't over and we had learned we absolutely had to do whatever was necesary to win and crush the other team (inside the rules). We got in a mental state of warriors fighting a war. There, that day, I fel and absolutely knew what it felt like to have my legs refusing to carry my own weight due to the extreme exigence they had been through, and yet, I don't know how, I stood up (yeah, I literally fell to the ground while not wanting to), got in the field and kept running for the last quarter of the game. I could only verbalize it as "when my legs cant continue to carry me, the will of my heart will take over".
It is lifechanging to experience that. It makes you certain of the unlimited power you have as a human being. Most people don't understand how tough and powerful and unstopable they actually are. They fix limits to themselves with ridiculously poor standards.

"Discipline as an assertion about whose in charge." Wow, as someone who is used to living based off emotion and motivation, this was really profound to me. Time to start toughening up... At my own will, instead of that of others (something i'm unfortunately very used to and good at).

We treat the body rigorously so it will not be disobedient to the mind. That is just an amazing

I think the key way to introduce this is to find the bridge between assertive and "in charge" of the body and being in control of your mind, goal, directive. If you have no direction these are hard concepts in practice.

I'm a recent student of philosophy and find it totally fascinating and true to life today as it's history...
There is nothing in religion that you can't get from philosophy without the dogma and elitism....
Stoic philosophy has the thoughts and lessons learned by the great Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius ( meditations of Marcus Aurelius)
Giving simple but very good advice, , , such as....if you listen to the argument of other people ( no matter how ridiculous or just wrong) you will give them the feeling of being listened to and feel respected, plus you get to understand how they come to that conclusion so you can understand better how to speak with them next even if you know the answers or the truth don't ignore those who don't so you can learn from don't waste time on the past you can't change anything and can only hurt or effect you if you let with now and the future and keep looking it's up to you if you feel hurt by someone else don't be the victim they want you to looking back and feeling hurt is a choice and costs you time and energy that is better used going
It's simple but very
