Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Just Changed Forever

Nintendo is doing everything in their power to make this DLC more than just tracks. I mean it started with small things like faster item box respawns, but that quickly shifted to what's basically modded items and now they’re making it so anyone can compete with top players no matter what combo they want to use. This game is headed in the right direction and despite Wave 5 and 6 not being a thing yet, it's definitely established itself as the true "Deluxe" version it always should have been!

I've never found the Waluigi/Wild Wiggler spammed as bad as the Funky Kong/Bowser Bike in Wii, but more character (and kart) diversity is definitely needed regardless!

In Worldwide lobbies, Japan has shifted over to Rosalina/King Boo/Link on the Cat Cruiser/Teddy Buggy and Roller/Sponge wheels. It's crazy how fast the meta's changed.

I’ve always played with my favorites instead of the meta so I’m glad to see with the update that more people will feel comfortable doing the same. I’m very excited to see some wacky combos online again after I finish the grandprixs of the new cups

i dont even play mk8 deluxe but the fact that the new meta (seemingly) allows people to finally play their faves without feeling like theyre throwing is nice!

I think it looks safe to say that even if there is technically a new meta, the playing field is more even than it was. It’ll still be viable to use Roy, DK online after this, just not as much of a no-brainer clear cut choice as before. Hopefully we see maybe a wee bit more character diversity online now.

One thing I like about this is that while it did make light characters more viable, it didn’t completely destroy the heavier characters and I’m still probably going to run my classic Morton Mr Scooty combo

Been a Mr. Scooty main since Day 1 in the Wii U days. Always loved just how funny and small it was, I got lucky that it ended up being viable

Well, the full standard combo IS better than the "meta" combo on Toad Circuit because it's Toad Circuit. Both builds are optimized in terms of Pareto efficiency (which means you can't increase one stat without decreasing the other) when it comes to mini turbo and ground speed. Meta combo is 16 MT and 10 Speed, while full standard is 13 MT and 13 Speed. So yeah, on a track like Toad Circuit where there are lot of straight lines, full standard has a huge +3 advantage on speed.

Make no mistake. The rollers is still meta for sure. But it’s definitely good to see new setups emerging. It was pretty boring seeing Wild Wigglers all the time. But I’m completely content sticking to the pipe frame setup. Never lets me down 💯💯

I always ran an Isabelle, Mercedes racer and rollers and i played wave 4 the first time and immediately noticed a huge performance difference. I’m glad they’re balancing, it was much needed

Honestly, I'm so happy about this patch. It's such a shame whenever you're using your favorite characters and you lose because of the unbalanced racers and kart combos and this is exactly what MK8D's online mode needed.

I have run some calculation and my prediction would be:
- *Characters:* Daisy-Peach-Yoshi-Birdo / Iggy-Luigi or Ludwig-Mario / King Boo-Link-Rosalina seem to be the top contender, sorted from Handling to Speed. Choose the one that suit your playstyle.
- *Bodies:* Teddy Buggy-Cat Cruiser are on top. It was already very good before they go that Mini-Turbo boost. It is basically the Wild Wiggler with more Mini Turbo, Weight and non-Ground Handling but lower Off Road. So if you used the Wild Wiggler, go Teddy Buggy. Mr. Scooty and Biddybuggy are also still good, depends if you want more Handling / Acceleration. To be fair, a lot of Bodies are great: the Wild Wiggler and same are great, so is Streetle and same, the Pipe Frame and same, or the Standard Kart and same.
- *Wheels:* Roller-Azure Roller are still on top, but not as dominant. Standard-Blue Standard and Cushion-Sponge are decent too.

Sure you can go Link - Teddy Buggy - Standard, but Peach - BiddyBuggy - Roller is still great trading Speed for more Handling, Acceleration and Mini-Turbo.
