Pirates and so many other subtitles! Johnny Depp is in it. Long requested, glad to finally get to it. It's something of a masterpiece and this is only part 1! Here's everything right with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl! (Part 1)

That video I mentioned from Jill Bearup:

The best line in this film is when Jack is told that the dock is off limits to civilians, and his reply is "I'm terribly sorry i didnt know, if i see one i shall inform you immediately"

Speaking of favourite lines:
"You cheated, in a fair fight I'd beat you"
"Not much incentive for me to fight fair then is it."
That lead child me to actually think about strategy

"One good deed is not enough to redeem a man of a lifetime of wickedness." "Though it seems enough to condemn him."
I didn't know this the first time I watched but the reason Jack says that is because the reason he was labeled a pirate was because he freed slaves he was suppose to transport. The good deed of freeing slaves condemned him to be branded as a pirate for the rest of his life. I really wish they kept the deleted scene from at worlds end explaining the situation.

Missed politeness win from Will, when a pirate almost chops him to death during the raid:
- Say "Goodbye"
Pirate gets hit
- Goodbye

You got my favorite line “Best start believing in ghost stories Ms. Turner...You’re in one” when the music cuts for a second after he says it just UGH SO GOOD

3:56 this also takes a new meaning if you know why jack was branded as a pirate in the first place. He used to work for the British navy until he freed a ship transporting 100 slaves hence the "people ain't cargo mate" line and the reason why Jack's soul is worth 100 souls

“But Norrington is holding it, and it does point to Jack.”

Cue “Careless Whisper.”

No win for “You cheated” “Pirate?” I always loved that.

11:21 man, you could call the cgi/special effects in this movie "dated, " and you'd be right, but GOD the transition from normal human to skeleton zombie is still ten out of goddamn TEN

I always took the "I became their Chief" story as an explanation of how quick Jack can learn a language and how his charisma gets men to follow him even though his mannerisms are so weird

I will always consider the first pirates move nearly perfect

My favorite line: Me, I am dishonest and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly, it is the honest one's you've got to watch out for.

Can confirm as someone that's spent a bit a time sailing: You get used to accounting for the swaying so you do occasionally look drunk once you get on land again, or at least feel it.

He completely brushed over that Jack was holding a banana when they met the crew for no apparent reason. I found that hilarious.

"I'm curious. After killing me, what was it you were planning on doing next?"

Barbossa is a great critical thinker, too!

quick note: already present in Barbossa's mannerism is his desire to be classy.
His big words, his fancy hat, him dining with class; it all alludes to his wish to be of higher standing.

I love how Elizabeth's father is constantly clueless. Dude hear cannon fire, saw lights in the distance, and instead of heading for cover he goes "Ooo pretty"

missed the best moment of the film - elizabeth's fake-out with the coin, when she tricks the zombie pirates into admitting that they need it by pretending she'll drop it off the ship. her expression is a masterpiece
