The cap sizes are linked to the size of the idle motor and the size of the load motor.
The idle motor is normally the size of the kw rating of the load motor.
The idle motor is used to control the phase rotation on the 3 phase output legs and control the magnitude of the voltage on the phases. It acts as a stabliser by feeding energy back into the electronic module.

Thank you for this information, I hope to apply it, and make my old converter work which looks pretty like this one. It didn't come with an idle motor though, so Ive a lot of homework yet to do. Have a good week,

So its a 4kw motor being driven by a 4kw idler motor? I thought the RPC design dictated that the idler motor should be twice the size of the driven motor?

Hello, can I ask are the caps sized to the idler motor, or the motor you intend driving. And if they are to the motor you are driving, is this the purpose of the rotary switch on some converters, to switch in more caps pending motor size? Many thanks,

Could you please explain the difference between the Australian power supply system of M.E.N. multiple earth neutral versus the american system of two live wires with one neutral? Does your transformer on the input side somehow do something to the neutral line in? If not, you are essentially putting an earth wire into the centre of the idler motor? I have been trying to get my head around this for weeks.

The toroidal transformer is clearly there - (left of motor)  it is toroidal transformer  - NOT an Ei transformer
