It's surely only a matter of time before one of your blurbs makes it onto a Penguin Classic. You're an excellent critic!

I love Herodotus. It was the first non-children’s classic that I read, and I was amazed at both the history and all of the weird little theories and natural history digressions Herodotus included.

I’ve had the de Sélincourt translation for years, and it’s worn those years well. My daughter saw part of the movie The English Patient, so now she keeps that copy on her nightstand, and we do evening readings from it. One of my favorite Penguin Classics!!

Steve, the internet never forgets. The Quarterly Conversation is of course archived whether they wanted it or not. :-D

Thucydides was my introduction to the Greek historians. I moved on to Herodotus shortly after and I fell in love with him. The tangents he goes off on are captivating. Almost everything he says is captivating.

I can't say I've opened a copy of Herodotus in the Pyramids but I have read from it Areopagus Hill overlooking the Acropolis. It was absolutely magical.

I’ve had the Landmark Edition pretty high on my wishlist for a long while, and this might push me over the edge to finally get a copy.

A daily Penguin, such a great idea!!! Thanks, Steve! And sticking with the Greeks is always a good idea, too. ;-)

So far the only translation we have is the De Selincourt translation. We really want to get a copy of the Landmark Herodotus, now to find an affordable copy!
