As a legally blind teacher who has been discriminated against and denied jobs I was highly qualified for, I saw myself for the first time in Being Heumann. As someone who is super politically active, I also knew very little about the activism that went into disability rights including activism that took place in my home town of San Francisco. I am so happy to hear you recommend this book and I hope more people read it.

My favorite book of the year was long pedal of the sea by Isabella Allende! I learned a lot about Chile and just instantly fell in love with the characters. I read it in early 2020 and I feel like I still carry the main character, Victor Dalmau, with me. The book just influenced me so much and reminded me of why I love learning about other people's lives and experiences.

I’ve loved following along on your reading journey this year! I also had a resolution to read more this year after slacking in that department while first year teaching. I got through 30 and also wanted to stop at a nice even number! Haha I think Just Mercy, Homegoing, and The Choice are my top 3 of 2020. I’m adding Wild Swans and The Midnight Library to my 2021 list for sure!
