To be fair, a couple of the digimon mentioned appeared in the anime before some pokemon. The turtle being an example of this with Digimon Tamers airing from 2001-2002 and Diamond and Pearl coming out in 2006. This example also includes Dobermon.

THANK YOU!!! I have been trying to explain to people that this exact "Palworld vs Pokemon" issue happened 25 years ago when Digimon aired on TV.

Pokemon fans demanded that Digimon be sued, claimed Agumon was a copy of Charmander, etc.
The internet wasn't big back then but I remember the fights that would break out in schools.

Fun Fact: Some of those Digimon designs came before the Pokemon versions, so one could argue Pokemon is the copycat. But lets be real, with over 1000 Pokemon and 1500ish Digimon, there is bound to be similarities.

Kinda unavoidable when you have so many monster designs on both franchises that there will be similarities(specially when both are taking the low hanging fruit, like “stylized animals” and “famous myths”), the base concepts are quite different though

Pokemon had about 16 months headstart and launched with 150 pokemon to Digimon's 7, but by the time Pokemon got out their second generation, Digimon was already over 200 strong and Pokemon in that 2nd generation were already overlapping with existing Digimon designs. Digimon now has over 1400 monsters to Pokemon's comparatively paltry 1100, and all but a few of the earliest Digimon designs came before the similar Pokemon, often by a few _years._
